Im putting a cage in here at school and i wanted to see if i could have it powder coated. I realise you might have to put the whole car in a oven, will that destroy the paint?

If you want to powdercoat it, you'll need to do the bars before you weld them into the car. Powdercoating the rollbar in the car presents problems...

1) You'll need a huge oven. Huge. Assuming you have that...
2) You'll have to take everything out of the car that will melt or get damaged by the heat. Rubber grease boots, wiring, gfx, tires, everything. A bare shell is what you want.

You could also use portable heat lamps to heat just the sections you need, but you'll still need to pretty much strip the car because you'll need to heat the rollbar area for an hour or so and the heat will travel through the rest of the sheet metal.

If I were you, I'd just paint the rollbar with primer and rattlecan enamel.

Incorrect. You can powdercoat your roll bar in the car only it is significantly more difficult and takes different equipment. I would think your interior would also need to be completely covered or removed to make life easier. You would have to use powder that cures with UV exposure and you would need high powered UV lamps.

Look at counter tops. not all of em are fimica(sp) lots of em are powdercoated mfd. ( UV cured ) Im looking into adding UV cure setups to my current stuff.

As for your question.

Your better off just painting it. use a Good quality selfetching metal primer. A good quality automotive paint and clear if you want.

if you have ALL plastic outa the car. You can use IR heaters to cure powder also. Ive done Sprint car chassies that were longer then my 10ft oven.
