this is my new car, what do u think?? 89 formula w\ edelbrock headers, pype exhaust, aluminum drive shaft, transgo shift kit, grant steering wheel, 2002 camaro leather seats, american racing wheels and 66,000 miles on it. only bad thing is the paint. i got it for 1800! i knew the guy and he wanted alot more but i talked him down...and when i do get it painted, hes gonna help me out there too. i already got the formula sticker package and also the early 80's trans am thing that would go on the scoop (would go up it then start to break apart and turn into a bird) what do u guys think of all that and it being painted black. im gonna post another pic when i get home from work

nice car man, 1800 dollars was a steal, seriusly. 87 - 89 cars peeled badly because new regulations forced them to switch to water based paint. Id paint it that deep metalic red color they used on 4th gens..

Formula is the second level of the Firebird line, looks like the base model bird with the motor/tranny of the Trans Am line.
Pure performance orientated.

Pontiac has a history of naming its cars after racing series. Some that come to mind are: LeMans, Grand Prix, Grand Am, Trans Am, and Formula.

Black would be EXCELLENT if the body is straight. Formulas, especially, look beautiful to me because they don't have all those bulges, scoops, cladding and what-have-you that Pontiac is notorious for.

Good trade. Looks like a killer car to hot rod out. Formys are the perfect car to hotrod. Get a paint job and a 350 and you'll be hooked up.

Unfortunately Formulas were also offered with 305LG4 combo.
They did come stock with 16 inch wheels 50series V rated tires and ws6 suspension package.

I say paint it black. Get GTA rims for it. Unless you really like the ones u got but black GTAs would set it off. Or even gold....Tint the windows, debadge it, get the tail lights that look more like a bunch of LEDs, etc...You deff. got a deal if it actually has that low mileage.

ya know...i want to paint everything that is red, navy blue. and keep the grey stripe on the bottom. ive gotta sticker kit alreadyand ive also got that hood bird that goes on like an 83 trans am, u know the small one on the scoop? im accually thinking about about cutting the bird itself out and just putting that on there on the scoop instead of the whole breaking triangle thing...sorry..i already said that.....but, if i went blue and did a cheap macco job (eh..daily driver ya know?) would it look like crap after a wile...like would it chip and id see red underneth? i think im just gonna go red..wait till it goes because by then...ill have more money to get a better job or i could prep it myself.

oh and do u guys know if they clear coat it too? im gonna tape it up myself and all but i was just wondering.. btw i already ran a search, read alot but nothing on clear coat

by no means am I a autobody expert, but I would think even Macco would strip all the previous red paint off first before painting it blue. Painting over the original paint would seem to be asking for trouble.

yeah oh course..but...i didnt know how they opperate..ya know? ive accually seen a few cars come into work here with white paint flaking off and its accually black undernieth. there was a pin stripe and everything, lol....so....if ive got the time im gonna do all body work ahead of time. hopefully, the paint will stick. itll be macco but the guy i got it from owns a shop and said hed help me get a 1000 paint job for like 400. hes gotta discount so...i dunno, we'll see. maybe itll be a better job..

My bro got his camaro painted at our local Maaco. DO ALL THE BODY WORK YOURSELF.

Not all Maaco's are the same.....but, most just mask and paint. You pay $400 you'll get a $400 paint job.

My bro didn't care about the quality of the paint job, he was broke and wanted his car a solid color.

We did all the body work, we took off the spoiler and mirrors taillights, headlights, body moldings.....everything. They just masked and painted. No paint went into the door jams or anything. They just sprayed the exterior.

No primer was applied nor was the previous paint was stripped off.

The paint lasted well all the way up to when he sold it. Some chips here and there but it lasted over 4 years.
