we need more thirdgen hoods out there. if you could have any hood on your car or even a design of your own what would it look like?

If that hood was available i'd probably have a hood sitting on the shelf right now instead of the nice .45 Glock I recently purchased.

If someone doesnt make it soon i'll be doing up my own hood, and its design will be completely different in direction.

I love the japanesse hood. I would like to see something with a heat/air extractor like that.

Japanes hood please...but without the side vents.

Let's get someone to make the damn thing already. It's been already 2 years since we started talking about it!

To keep costs down, let's do it in fiberglass.

you know, Im just putting this out there because it's a different hood (though it will generate some hate lol) but I like the 'inverted' ram air hoods that you see on trucks.....basically same concept as the RAII hood, but remains flush with the hood (doesnt raise up)....still has the nostrils on the end though....Ill post this and see if I cant find a pic

1 more vote for the Japanese hood. But I think id probably be the only one that would actually want it in carbon fiber but glass will do just as well I just always liked the look of carbon fiber.

yes that japanese hood is wicked altho no one will make it you would think after all this talk and all the interest of it someone would make it i am looking for a bone stock metal hood and i am going to make my own out of sheet metal. its not that hard just a revers cowl and a few vents on the side

i plan on taking a 3inch cowl from harwood designs and making the japanese hood for my bird...i might have a mold made if many would like it....i will also be adding in air induction scoops almost like Naca ducts but they will be square to go with the hood on the sides of the cowl for my eventual twin turbo motor

i like the japanesse hood. i might get one or get a ss hood. what would the ss hood look like with the side vents from the japanesse hood on the ss hood?

or even if someone moded a IROC Turbo Hood and made it in to a japanesse hood so it would be a japanesse IROC Turbo Hood.

I want a Ram Air hood like the 69 Trans Am for my camaro. It has dual air scoops but are lower profile and a little wider than the ones made today. The Japanese hood is ok I guess but I want ram air.

really tho how hard would it be to make it out of a steel hood not very so i might just try it altho i am wondering about that reverse cowl what do you do when it rains does rain just flow in there or is there a little lip at the end of the cowl to catch the raing and revert it back somewhere else?

the jap hood would be nice. i think more manufacturers should offer there hoods in a cf version, for those of us that want the ultimate in lightweight.

but........................................................ i bet we will still be talking about this a year from now still hopeing for it to be made.

lol

thanks

I think the Japanese hood looks good.. but I'd like to see it from another angle before I give it a vote.. I'd like to see it from back looking forward and over the hood toward the front bumper.

I still think the nicest hood I've seen (for my personal taste) is a stock IROC hood that a guy cut and stitch welded along the original seams giving it a 1&3/4" to 2" cowl. So far that gets my vote..

My choice would depend on what you're trying to accomplish. Are you just looking for a new hood for an appearance change? Or will it need to be functional in some way? I already know what hood I'm gonna be getting for my orange Z, but gonna wait till I got my turbo setup at least 1/2 way done ... yes japan hood with vents in the perfect spot for twins on banks manifolds mmmmmm

No worries about using my car, chop it all you want I dont mind.

Call me crazy, but I like the stock hoodlines. my only wish was that I could get it in carbon fiber so that I could do carbon fiber/black heritage stripes really easy...

the ram air huh... well i can honestly say i'm not doing anything with that but a similar version with the japan style hood is in works as well as a fiberglass version of the factory irock/z28 style hoods. CF would be an option but not at this point as there aren't enough thirdgen owners who would drop the cash down to make it worth the effort. i myself wouldn't mind having one but at the $1,500 or so it would cost me i'll live with fiberglass for now.

by the way shawn, who is the hooters girl?

doesnt that hood look easy to make?? i mean for someone who knows what their doing... is it just me or does that look perfectly possible with a simple 3in cowl and a pair of 2nd gen fender vents?

or is the cowl not as wide??

Yeah id like a hood that isnt a cowl hood or F'ing Ram air hood that more than one company makes same model of. I think the japanese hood is perfect, would like that for my bird, with or without the side vents. Or at least a hood with some reverse vents in it over the top of intake.

I like the design of the super duty hood, but its 4" tall. I always thought the ferrari marenello hood looked great, subtle and sexy.

Some people like me want a hood that you can see over and draw air in or out without being overly flashy.

I'm not a fan of the Japanese hood. You wanna know why? I want to see a show of hands on this one. How many of you make fun of appearance only "ryce" mods like double spoilers and carbon fiber hoods, only to post here about how you want one of these hoods? Hmmmmm....ironic isn't it? It just seems like whether or not you like it, the import scene has helped bring back the car hobby, yet most of you make fun of them for their new style and new ideas. Hey, that's cool, I'm kinda old school too. I just think it's funny that when all these new vents and scoops and carbon fiber make it to YOUR car, all of a sudden it's now COOL.

...but anyway...

What hood would I want? L-88 scoops are cool....a thirdgen version of the SLP ultraZ hood would be cool...but bottom line, I'd chose a slightly lower profile SS hood, or a stock Iroc hood. The Iroc hood is just plain perfection, and the SS hood isn't far behind, but I think it's a smidge to tall, and wide. Just a tad smaller maybe.

For the record, I'm not against anyones style or opinion, but you can't rip on import style while your running an import style hood.

...and I actually like the hood. It's just not as cool as an Iroc hood IMHO.

well i think if its functional and it doesnt make your car look ridiculous then its not ryce...especially if you can look down those side vents and see turbines on both sides which i will eventually have

it is kinda ironic how we are drooling over a japanese part but ive always liked their creativity with hoods but when it goes on something that doesnt run under 17s in a quarter mile like a stock civic then i argue about the need of it and it not being simply for race insipired cosmetic enhancement

some of you guys are making sound like this hood a ryce rip off. but its not, american and euro race cars have been using hoods like this for a long time. i think people say it is a rcer hood die to the fact the jap guys happen to have a good aftermarket that can craft quality parts for a half way decent price (wasnt this hood gonna cost somthing like 2 grand but almost 800 of that was shipping). just because it is carbon fiber, doesnt make it rcer material. imo, carbon fiber is more race car stuff cause of the light weight, wouldnt it be nice to have a hood that is 7 lbs. i think it would be.

so dont rip on this design because the import crowd has this style.

thanks

I think this is great. We can finally have more options when it comes to appearance for our cars. We can go with the aftermarket look and get the japanese hood or if you are a fan of the stock look, you can get a lightweight version of your stock louvered or blistered hood. This will make tgo and the thirdgen hobby in general much more interesting if this indeed happens. Let's please not turn this into an argument if it is "****" or not. If you don't like it, maybe suggest a different design.

I dunno, I just think I'd have an easier time buying a $1500 CF hood and having someone clear coat it than I would finding someone that could paint CF...

Too many individual little things to quote, so lemme just ramble for a moment.

First off, I think it's a killer design, and it looks sweet, it's just not my style. I'd give anyone who had it a thumbs up.

I also think it's AWESOME that they have quality aftermarket parts in Japan. My hat's off to 'em.

Carbon fiber is funtional because it's lighter? Sure. And how many of you are out there beating yourself up for a carbon fiber hood, when all of a sudden HOORAY! A japanese hood made of carbon fiber!!!!! For 99% of you, it's for appearance, NOT performance, and don't try to kid yourself. It's all good, I like my Iroc hood and it's not funtional either.

Now I'm sure if Kandied does something with this hood or something similar, it'll be absolutely fantastic. And if you're tuckin' two turbos under there, then that's cool. And if you have a stock V6 thirdgen and you wanna get that hood, I say go for it!!! I'm just saying that maybe WE ALL need to take a look at the import crowd and realize that it's not bad just because it's on a Honda.

...oh, and I did make "other" suggestions.

..but I'm not trying to take over this thread, so I'll give it back now. I hope someone makes this hood. I think it's cool and I hope to see it.

Personally, I'd love to see a cowl hood that resembles the 69 Camaro cowl hood, except without the peak at the center of the hood.

Essentially, it would be like a Harwood hood but with about 1" less height, and a far better fit and finish.

the ram air huh... well i can honestly say i'm not doing anything with that but a similar version with the japan style hood is in works as well as a fiberglass version of the factory irock/z28 style hoods. CF would be an option but not at this point as there aren't enough thirdgen owners who would drop the cash down to make it worth the effort. i myself wouldn't mind having one but at the $1,500 or so it would cost me i'll live with fiberglass for now.

Hi Jeff!

I think the Ram Air could look sweet I love the way it looks on Camaroguy18 and Maximus's car. I know its not for everyone...I just love the big nostrels. Maybe they could tweak that hood in someway.

I really like you hood probably the best. I'm really considering it...I want to do a new hood to and just to me have a different look. Dag gone it I can never keep anything the same lol.

I have tried to think of ideas yet I think they may have already brought out the best looking hoods possible for our cars. I think yours looks the best, followed by the ram air.

By the way your car looks great! I'm glad to see it back in the hands of someone that appriciates these cars and will take care of it.

The Hooters girl "avatar" is the wife about 3 years ago.

I would love to see some new designs yet I just cant dream or imagine anything better than whats available.
