Will this tire size rub?
Will this tire size rub?
I'm going to purchase some 18" IROC rims(18x8.5 or 18x9) and was wondering if 245/40-18 or maybe 245/45-18 will rub in the front when turning? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

Um, not really sure about 18"rims but with my 15x7's the front tire rubbed ever so slightly with 265/50/R15's. If that helps at all.

Well, I have 17x9's in front with 275/40ZR17's and they do not rub at all.

CarNDrvr: Was there any modification done to make them fit? I see you have springs, so I can assume the car is slightly lowered.
And what's the backspacing on the rim?
Reason I ask is I already have the rims, just haven't mounted them yet and just want to know if they'll fit without needing modification. If they do, where?
I mean I'm sure once I get the tires and mount the rims I'll see, but for now I'd just like to know.
The rims I got are 17" x 9" w/ 5" backspacing.

I also have a 5" backspacing. No mods needed to fit. Not in the front anyways. I needed to do some modifications in the rear for 17x11's.

i've got 245/50 ZR 16 's and they have never rubbed. CC ran an article on building 82-92 f-bodys and had a wheel section with all of the measurments required to make them fit with just spacers(for the 275's up front)umm if you've lowered the car you may have problems rubbing the top of the fender well going over bumps with that sidewall and tire size, otherwise your 245's shouldnt rub going into corners
hey dude-
i ghave 18" irocs with 245/40s all around with no problems rubbing, and lowered 1". only rub in the back with hard cornering and a car full of people. hope that helps.
