4th gen interior stuff

A while back, there was talk of a person who swapped an entire 4th gen interior into his third gen TA. There were many pictures, etc. I'm hoping someone has a link to this or can tell me who it was that did this. I'm getting ready to convert over to a 4th gen console. (I really want a cup holder) and I'd like to talk to him regarding a couple specifics. If anyone has any info at all, please post it.

I put a console out of a 95TA/Formula in my 88. I was suprised how straight-forward it was.

There was only one modification I had to do;
On the 4th gen unit, there is a little plastic "tab" that sticks out of the very front of the console. It goes under the area where the radio is.

Anyways, you have to cut this off (whith a dremel or something like that, very easy to do) so that the console will fit all the way up underneath the radio.

After I did this, I looked under the console lid and was shocked to see that the two screw holes inside the actual console lined up perfectly.

It looks real good and a lot of people compliment me on it, but the only thing I dont like is that it sticks out a tad bit on the passenger side of the radio housing.

Doesnt look too bad though.

I know, seen pics of that a while ago, its massively sweet. I would love to do that to my car, but who knows how much it would cost.. ack! I wish there were better pics of that car too. I have 3 different ones, and they aren't that great quality wise.

FormulaJoe, boy am I glad to hear what you had to say! That' pretty much what I'm doing. 94 Formula console in 86 Trans Am. Mine's an automatic, and I suspect that my factory shifter just WON'T work in the new console. I bought the factory 4th gen shifter just in case. I will definitely remember the plastic tab bit, and hopefully my install will go as well as yours. I'm really looking forward to this swap. My only REAL concern is the window switches. That may be challenging. But, either way, I'm sure I'll make it work.
Thanks to everyone for their input. I sure would like to hear from the guy who built that Camaro convertible. I left a message on his 'guistbook', but haven't heard back. Sure is a sweet car.

I dont think its gonna be simple for either the bird of the camaro. I think I am going to put a TA interior into my 92 RS (I like the "****pit" look of the TA's better than the Camaro's int.) They both have the same basic shape, and the console looks like it has the exact same dimensions. I imagine that either interior will be equally as hard to put in. Anyone know where I can find a 98-2001 TA dash/console/doorpanels? Thanks!
