Here you go crazyL.
I can't comment on how far they stick out on a stock 3rd gen axle. I converted to a fourth gen and the look okay. I upgraded to C5 brakes up front and added a 2 inch space to even everything out. The car really gets a lot of looks and comments now.

they are a necessity if you're putting 9" 4th gen wheels on your 3rd gen...

I have not had any issues with the spacers at all. Since I have the C5 brake set-up they actually help hold the rotor in place. As BlueZee said, they are required if you want to run a fourth gen wheel. The car gets autocrossed and road coursed and has never given me a problem. I did lock-tight the spacer to hub lugs just be safe though

do you guys know if when you buy spacers from a company on ebay, if they normally give you lock-nuts for them? or should i go and get a set from autozone and put them on...really what i would want them for is to put on the wheels and take the old lugs from the wheels and put them on the spacers...i wouldn't be as pissed if my spacers got stolen as if my wheels got stolen...

The spacer bolts to the hub just like a wheel and the spacer has the studs on it to bolt the wheel up. I have one locking lug and 4 regular lugs on mine. Hawksthirdgenparts.com has the spacers.
Oh yeah, another chance for me to showoff my car before I started the motor swap.
