Question for Hawks

I was looking at the 5'' Spoiler in the Camaro section, and it states:

Camaro 82-86, 91-92 5 in. Rear Spoiler
Why would it not be able to fit on the 87/88's?

You mean why won't it work on a 1987-90 F-Body coupe. It will fit just fine. Legally you couldn't use it because they had the HMSL (high-mount stop light) mounted in the spoiler for those years. If you swapped a 1991-92 hatch complete with HMSL or 1986 HMSL onto your car it would be legal.

or just cut a small slit out of it and put a peice of smoked plexi in there with a led 3rd brake light off a blazer. Then you would be legal and have a custom touch.

thanks

Its funny how you say this. When i usually see a older car (86-90) And ppl took there third brake light off i usually want to fail them cuz by law those years should have a 3rd brake light. But i usually let them go though, cuz mostly they have other issue (external sheet, front end)

It will depend on your state and who does it. New Jersey has state operated inspection stations, where they will fail you. I've been going to the same mechanic for years and he wouldn't fail me.

my 88 GTA has a hatch from an 86 TA that had a HMSL. but the prior owner did not like it up high so he removed it. oregon does not even check for that stuff. i have no third brake light at all.

guys that work in garages and do inspections aren't stupid. Most of them know if a particular car should have a 3rd brake light or not. You'd be amazed how well they know intricate details of the inspection laws. If you don't fail for it, they're probably just being nice and choosing not to hassle you. Don't return the favor by thinking they're ignorant.
