sequential LED conversion for turn signals *Updated To Version 3*

this is going to be my thread going through the steps of converting my rear turn signals to sequential signals but with LED's. Here is a short video to show you guys what the pattern will look like....the setup in the video has them going fast.. so i slowed it down (wont be seen till the next video which will be up when my next order of LED's gets in) anyways heres the video.. let me know what you guys think (oh this would be for firebirds with the amber signals in the rear)

what do you think about making the brightness of the leds adjustable also? I'd probably just make them the same or a little bit brighter than stock.

I seen some kind of mercedes or something with LED blinkers. I like how they go instantly off, not like a bulb that fades.

So where are the steps?? hahahaha, just giving you heat. But seriously, I'd like to see how you did it. There are a few "how-to's" out on the Internet, I've followed those to do this myself. This is pretty much a universal mod that could be done to any car. But I haven't posted pics or info about my conversion yet because its not done. The electronics portion is done, just not the tail-light enclosure since its been put on the back-burner. I'm like 80% done. If you would like to see info on others that have done this to their 3rdgen, do a search. I think quite a few people have done this already, might even find someone elses "how-to" with pics.

they will most likely be the same if not brighter then stock... and with LED's it'll be crisp on and off... no fading... its hard to tell in the video because i have them set to fast... but with the speed slowed down to what im going to have set at... its instant on and instant off... no fading

Looks neat but also looks like it would definitely attract the popo. That could easily be confused with a strobe light on an emergeny volunteer vehicle judging from that video. Maybe if it was on the slowest setting it would be fine.

I'd definately like to see how you're putting them in the tailight housings themselves. I've seen quite a few retrofits over at hidforum.com but I don't want to rip apart my lights to start experimenting... Expensive buggers...

rear tails/stops are the next project after the turn signals are done... since they will require many more LED's...but they will be done!!

You need to show what a standard filament bulb looks like compared to the LED.

A side by side thing...

** Ok Update Number 3.... Now Has 40 LED's... Decided On The Final Speed... The Module Is Still not at its final width... due to lack of breadboards..... but in this video its attached to where my left turn signal would be.. and i have the right turn signal going so you can compare the difference between ugly stock.. and this nice LED unit!!! (note: the module is outside of the tailight)ok.. enjoy**

Hit me with some instructions as well, im definitely of the "do it yourself, funk it up, read someone elses instructions, adapt it to my own, and make it hot" persuasion

extra housing has arrived so the project can get back on track... i think im just going to make this a full LED tail light retro fit... i already have the the LED's for the turn signals... and the reverse...for the reverse im going to use a 1 Watt Luxen star LED.... it puts out about 35-40 lumen of nice white light (~5500K) i'll have pictures up of it in a couple days what it looks like on... and i would like to give a big thanks to GM.. for sealing our tail lights shut with a silicon or adhesive glue... which means it'll be simple baking of the tail light and some prying to get it apart.

I'm definatly the same way. I'd like some instructions so that I can adapt this to my Iroc. Keep up the good work.

** update... i decided to pry my spare taillight apart... it was quite easy... a heat gun worked well because the light didnt fit in my oven... unfortunetly my spare taillight is cracked so the pictures from now on of the lense arent going to look as good because of the giant cracks... unless someone has a taillight for sale at a relitively cheap price and wants to help out with the project **

Ugly Cracked Lense....And What I Have To Work With!!!
