Underhood stuff... gloss or satin ?

I finally gotten off my duff and painted the engine bay.

Gloss or satin for all the bolted on crap (and I mean any bolted on items)? I'm having a tough time deciding.

Scheme ideas welcome too.

Looking to contrast this color..

Seriously guys.. I'm not going to bite your head off if you give some feedback... honest.

I've stared at this dammed thing for 2 nights now. The only gain is I have mocked this up tonight just to realize how much $$ I've got to spend just to get this turd to start again.

I painted the hvac box satin and... it's just not... flowing.. I think.. hell.. I don't know....

I personally think the satin will contrast the gloss look great. Especially the blue on black look youve got goin on there. That really looks awesome.

I feel there is such a thing as "too shiny" or "too chrome", and those two terms look gaudy to me.

So is the "deadbird" name gonna be put to rest when this thing is done. Looks like its comin along awesome.

I went with satin and I'm glad I did. I also considered painting my heater box satin black but instead had it painted body color. I went through a bunch of old TGO posts to check out pics of other people's heater boxes. I thought the body colored tin looked better because it takes up so much room on the firewall.

Something just looks odd to me about a bunch of gloss black parts. About the only things I can handle would be wheels.

Either body color or satin look best. I don't think gloss black looks all that fabulous and I agree that it doesn't seem to "flow" under the hood. Although you could always polish or have some of the stuff chrome plated. That would REALLY set things off.

Satin.. the gloss black would have to be 100% perfect in order for it to look good

Didn't mean to sound impatient... I appreciate the input guys, thanks. Just trying to not lose steam with this bit of progress
I think the fact I've seen so many nice engine bays makes it harder to decide a direction.

Got to looking at the hvac box and even in satin (really less than.. it's trim black which is more of a black oxide finish) and even that shows alot of flaws in the molded lower half. Why it has to be made out of two different materials is beyond me as well. Needs work though.

I'm thinking of all plastic & accys satin. Accy pulleys, maybe gloss. Serp. brackets will be cast alum powdercoat (as the one in thre pic already is. Polish/stainless fuel/brake lines, a/c, fuel rails and maybe valve covers (they are toast at the moment). Cast alum for TPI runners/plenum. Base as shown.
Kind of keep the cast/black thing going with all the visable items though.

Yay or nay ?

Painting the steering box/& attached linkage cast alum might be going too far though you think ?

Not being able to find weatherpack & pass through harness connectors locally (amoung a few other odds & ends) is staing to kill the momentum too.

I see a couple people get the hood joke at least

My entire engine bay is flat black
Small accessories like Cruise Control are gloss black, the motor is gloss black and polished aluminum, the AC drier is gloss black, the blower box is flat... and most everything else is flat.

But my car is black body color, and I wanted some kind of contrast to the body color inside the bay.

Not to mention.. flat black is old skool muscle car-zy
