Opinions on some ideas i'm rolling around

i'm changing the exhaust again, for those keeping count this will be the 4th time in 2 years, mainly because with the headers its gonna be WAY to loud, its nasty now with the stock manifolds, my old 3.5x22" slash cuts are starting to look a little chea to me, like i did a quick fix on em or something just to have someting back there, i'm considering running 4th gen tips....but i'm also considering maybe a spintech single system with just the tailpipe hidden so no tips, or my super secret idea that i cant decide if i like or not, heres whats on there now

If you got the 4th gen tips and made a custom rear bumper and the bumper will wrap around the tips that would look cool

IMO the rectangular tips look like crap on thirdgens...i will only buy round tips, preferrably rolled tips on mine.

I think the rectangular tips would look nice on your car. I like the last pic where they are separated. In that picture, I would actually lower the tips to follow the lowest line of the bumper. The tips might stick out a little on the bottom, but i think it would still look nice. I attached a crapped 30 second paint drawing to show what line i mean.

but with a little work you could make them flush with that line and the bottom of the bumper....and that would be sweet

That in the bumper looks mint! Until you get black crap all over the bumper Other then that I'd go no tips at all.

dont get me wrong, i love those in the bumper photoshops, my problem being i really dont wanna cut into it, especially with what it cost to get the thing painted, and the fact that the painter is in texas, cutting makes me nervous, however if i ever get rearended i know whats happening

I'm kind aleaning towards just two 4th gens or hidden, more towards hidden now, i figure give it the WOW that sounds great where is it? affect, accept as soon as the hoods spotted they'll know

the rectangular 4th gen tips look amazing on our cars, they fit the boxy shape on the thridgen perfectly. they have to be fitted correctly but look best IMO. i think our bumpers angle up too much and are too far off the ground for no tips..

but no tips are better than gawdy tips

******* exhaust [car] is amazing too

you can make any hangers you want. take a piece of round stock, bend it, weld it to the tailpipes, and i would weld some sort of loop on the other side to attach it to the rear frame rails...just get creative

welding is easy as crap, dont fool yourself. i started out with a welder i got at sears that came with everything you need and a mask for like 20 bucks. now i have mig welders at work and at school which are a billion times even easier to use. just have someone who knows how show you. youll only need to make like 3 or 4 beads to get it down.

They make kits like this for 4th gen camaro's but the tips arent as rectangular and i think the rounded corners look better. you could also try this with corvette style dual tips and see how that looks

yea welding in general is easy (advanced techniques take some time to get down though), small things especailly and even more so with a mig welder. a gasless welder does the job but takes much more time, is harder to use, and never looks as good.

as far as the tips im not a big fan of them in the middle on the car like on C5's. and when i was looking into notching my bumber i found its tough because there isnt much room back there for the pipes. but if you get them flush with the edge of the bumper and right up againt the bottom youre good to go.

yea mig isnt bad, of course i'm a certified welder that burns on average 90 pounds o l56 .035 a week and about 20 pounds of alumig 3/64 a week

I have pretty much decided to run no tips, i am going to disect my ravin muffler and "tune" it to my liking, then probaly just run turndowns of 45* right out the muffler, they'd be hidden and kind ahelp out the pro street theme, of blowing dust and crap around when rolling, the tips are looking cheesy but i'm gonna mock up some different combos just out of curiosity

i have a ravin muffler too, suprisingly i like the way it sounds but its been so long since ive ran that car without open headers
let me know how it works out when you do a little "tuning" to it...i might just have to try it

Problem with the 4th gen tips is they *seem* to be very hard to line up...as proof that nearly every pic of a 3rd gen with 4th gen tips on it makes them look crooked.

the newer z tips do look great seperated, but if you were to go with something absolutely unique........and had the time, try and have the tips exit thru the rear lower quarter panels. with a chrome bezel around them. there is a guy at my work who has a 02 dakota running spintech's and tips done this way. Looks and sounds absolutely awesome. Something new???

If you're going to be modifying anything steel in the entire car, a MIG is almost a necessity. When I welded, I laid down probably 25lbs of 0.035 solid core a week. I got the job because it was close to home and had never really welded before. The company started me out welding bushhog wheel forks -- heavy plate steel that's really hard to screw up when welding. I did that for a few days and was a decent MIG welder. I then began piecework trailer fab where I built almost the entire thing from the ground up myself. As long as you pay attention to how you weld and look at the outcome, it's easy to MIG. Everyone should try it! Haven't done it in a while, but I actually thought it was fun. Clears the mind, too.
