Im looking to cut 1 coil off my sportline coils...I still have some fender gap and im not digging it too much.Anyone out there cut 1 coil off their sportline coils?
Im really dont care for the ride quality because sooner or later(more like later) i will be going to air suspension. However, right now,i just want the look...Here is a pic of my camaro with sportlines

EDIT:New pic

i'd cut 1/4 to 1/2 a coil and see what happens first. that is going to get pretty low really quick.

If your gonna tell people your not going to do it atleast tell us why.91NiteRida':
I have never cut mine but im putting some Belltech 1.75 F & R drop springs and im sure after awhile I'll want mine lower than that so I would also like to see how much your gonna cut off. I would start with 1/4 or 1/2 a coil first though just incase you go too low.

mine (in my old GTA) were cut , but just a bit. never had a problem with it, took me little time to do and made the car feel and look alot better.

i cut one coil off my rears but thats because i have a big axle tube rear end so it raised everything up . I just used a cutoff wheel and cut for alittle while and then dipped it in water so it didnt get hot . What someone told me is better to do is to heat it up and push it down so that you have the coil but make the spring shorter.

1 full coil is way too much. You need to start with about a coil and check it once it settles. My guess is that 1/2 a coil is going to be about what you want, but I would still advise against cutting springs. The roughness of the ride isn't just for you, if you don't have proper bracing, expect to start seeing cracks in the body quicker than an aftermarket springed car.
Cutting the rears are an even worse idea since they are progressive, they will be rock hard when you cut them down and your traction will fail out considerably faster than aftermarket springs. If you drive in ice/snow/rain, you'll need to be exceptionally careful
You can get your car just like LT1FUN's car with DropZone springs. They are cheap, so you could easily sell them for slightly less than you purchase them for when you go to bag the camaro.

Heating the coils up isn't a good idea at all. It is impossible to heat them up evenly and the heat with mess with the stress capacities of the metal, which could also change the spring rate. (It can be like runner a high rate 1LE spring on one side of the car and V6 springs on the other)Originally posted by 18inchboyds

I'm not one of those guys that will tell you "NO! you can't cut springs" but it isn't always the best idea. Cutting progressive rate springs is bad because it changes the point where the spring rates will change, which despite all physics calculations is damn near impossible to predict.
P.S. Cutting the springs will lower the car TO A POINT, until a point is reached where the weight is not enough to overcome the increased spring rate, which also leads to a stiff ride. Cutting near or past this point means that if the rear end moves enough(like a dip, or when rebounding from a bump) the springs will be loose for a moment causing a popping noise and sometimes slipping out of place.
i did 1.5 coils on my old TA up front and 1 in the rear, pic was scanned so its fuzzy, this was 5yrs ago,17x9.5 rear 17x8 front

one thing dont think it is too high when you first do them b/c they will settle alot. i cut mine 1 coil and wanted it lower but should have left it there.

Sorry for taking so long to respond but I didn't check the "email notification" box when I posted, so I wasn't aware anybody was asking me anthing. Sorry.
Anyways, they are the factory springs with 1 coil removed.
The car still rides and handles great but, obviously, you have to be careful going over some speedbumps and driveway entrances, but that's the same with any lowering spring.
I do plan on upgrading to a set of eibach springs though and maybe doing the same with them.
Not because there's anything really wrong with the factory ones, (the car handles like it's on rails) but they are 18 years old springs afterall, so I'm sure they have sagged a bit over the years.
I'm sure th eibach's will handle better simply because they're newer.
