Dart Diecast Valve Covers on a TPI setup

I'll post pictures tonight. So my motor is almost assembled and I'm test fitting everything before I actually drop it into the car. What I'm seeing is the alternator is in it's stock location (drivers side) and the positive lead on the back is actually making contact with my valve cover. These are taller Dart valve covers. What I was planning on doing is shortening the threaded post off the alternator and using a thinner nut. Has anyone else had this issue with Dart covers or any tall valve cover for that matter on a TPI setup?
BTW, I would move the alternator but I've also got a Procharger setup, AC delete and smog delete pulley and I don't want to start screwing with belt routings and lengths.

sounds like you need a slightly longer belt to move the alternator up more out of the way. any parts store should be able to set you up with a longer serp. belt easily enough.

jerrod75110, no they don't . They do have bosses though. My engine builder charged me 50 bux to machine (3) holes. 2 breather holes and 1 pvc. Make sure you use grommets for thicker material and not the thinner stamped material. It's kinda hard to explain without a pic but the grommets you'll want with diecast material simply have a wider space on the outer diameter.

xpndbl3, I dont' understand? I can't move the alternator if I plan on using the stock bracket. Moving the alt might interfere with my blower setup / bracket too.

using a longer belt would allow the alternator to raise up the 1/2" you'd need to clear the valve covers since there's a long slot to add/remove tension onto the belt. you can even remove that bracket and add a turnbuckle setup from the hardware store for $5.

definately longer belt equals higher alternator which allows for battery cable clearance.
