Painting wheels

Hey guys, I have stock wheels on my camaro RS and I was thinking of painting them black. I ran a search about painting wheels and checked out a pretty helpful thread regarding powdercoat versus paint. I was wondering if anyone successfully painted their wheels and kept them nice and protected with a certain topcoat they migh recommend. And if painting the wheels is, for the majority, supported, what successful methods and techniques have people used? Thanks.

I repainted my wheels silver (was thinking of doin em black...). All you need to do is drop by an advance auto or something similar and get wheel paint. It hardens nice and hard. All I can say is have fun cleaning them though its been like 6months since I painted mine and they need a good cleaning and just a rag and soap wasnt doin it. When you paint them make sure you do very light dustings to start or it will fish eye. Youll need 3-4 coats.

I did this myself on my GTA's. I think I saved $600+.

I think I might do exactly what you did Cadillac, since the procedure is there for me to follow. Wheels look good.

Intimidator what did you use for your wheels? Those look nice themselves, how long has it been since the paint job?

i just used high temp paint and then i used regular rustoleum on top its been about 1/2 a year and thanx

I painted mine with engine paint, which worked pretty well. Make sure you strip the old paint off first though. Because I can see the old pink paint around the edges on mine. You can look at my car domain for pictures.

i just finished accenting mine black, they look sweet. i followed theses instructions and it worked pretty well. what do u think i could use to get them a perfect opaque reflective? auto sol?

Great looking wheels!

Intimadator- That's a wicked looking ride- Are those 16s you're running? I was wondering if they would look OK using my stock 84 Z28 15 inch rims, or if they wouldn't fill out the wheelwells enough to complete the "blackout" look.

yeah theyre 16's. thats the good thing with goin full black it if you get the right coat and clean your tires itll blend in with the tires and make them look bigger. people sometimes thinks that my rims are 17's. i have seen these rims in 17's too wish i could get a set but hey i got these for free so im not complaining.
