Now, that is more like it! That is one sweet car! Course, I am bias because I have the hood, but it looks so tight compared to that RA II hood!

I got the hood from ASCD almost two years ago. It is not functional but It can be made functional very easily. My car has that stupid MAF so I just built fresh air scoops for behind the foglights.

Hey Thor,
did you have any installation problems with the ASCD hood? For example like the hood release latch and hood hinges. Also did the hood line up perfectly with the fenders or did you have to do body work? Thanks

The website for ASCD is www.Americansportscar.com.

Everything fit perfectly except the hood latch. Even with the latch adjusted all the way up it closed the hood to close to the nose piece. I added three small washers to both hood latch bolts and that gave me the proper clearance.

I've looked forever to find a pic of a black third gen with that hood and i LOVE IT! I'm definately getting one! This is probably a dumb question, but does ASCD make them steel or fiberglass? If i get it in fiberglass, do I need those ugly hoodpins?

yours is fiberglass? and you were able to use the same hood struts? i read somewhere that the hood struts were too strong for the fiberglass hood that when you open and close the hood, it would tear the hood at the hinges. you dont have that problem?

ok i have finally decided.
i was going to leave the stock hood. but i am debating now.
i think i was the SS hood. just a few questions
1. Is the underside: finished or unfinished
2. what consisted of install?
3. was is straight or warped? any cracks
4. what about the struts. can you use them or do you have to get old worn out ones?

thanks and does anyone have pics of that in red?..

accidental double post, so ill responnd to everything i wanted to here

Mine is total fiberglass as well, and it didnt fit perfectly at all, had to do body work to line it up, the hood fit too close to the passenger fender, and to the nose piece. As for the hinges... well when i open the hood i have to "wobble" the hood to get the hinges to open properly, otherwise one will bind depending on how much your trying to lift either side. it really kinda irritates me. My bodyman and i are working on that problem currently hmm..also the hood is sagging from the passenger fender, in another words its like lower in one spot on the passenger side of the hood than where the passenger fender is.. you cant tell all these problems on the car unless you try to open the hood though luckily.

I also had probelms with the windshield wipers getting caught under the hood and had to shave that too.. so over all.. if this is the normal quality of ASCD hoods i dont think ill ever buy another one...

Dont get me wrong I love the hoods looks, but i was a bit disappointed in the quality of it. It seems to be durable enough, i havent had the hinges rip or anything but it just was a LOT of work that i didnt expect in having. Luckily i was workin on body work anyways.

-Steve

I have one of these hoods and it fit perfectly... I got it a long time ago and their quality was second to none. Fiberglass in nature hardly ever is perfect, it the way it is. You will not find a single person that doesn't have to do something to their hood to make it fit right. Talk to Jim85Iroc about Harwood, talk to almost anyone about US-Body... ASCD has a pretty good rep all in all.
Anyway, just my .02
Later,
RS

The only company I've ever heard of making steel custom hoods was goodmark. they have a cowl for camaros and a SS style for a puckup of some sort. I emailed them and asked if they were planning an SS style camaro hood, they said that it costs almost $400,000 to design and make dies for one hood so I'm thinkin without 2000 advance orders they won't even think about it. The guy said "we have one for camaros and don't plan on making another" I was bummed, but hey, what can you do?
