Hot Wheels Sixty-Eight

Turns out that Hot Wheels makes real wheels. They come in the sizes I want. And, more importantly, are very affordable from www.DiscountTireDirect.com

They come in black with a polished lip ($136)...

and a fully polished version ($170) ...

There's also a chrome version but it pretty much looks the same as the polished version in the picture. And these are all 17X9" rims.

Thoughts? Opinions? Discuss.

They have to be removeable so that they can be balanced. So yes they do.

I only saw the 16 inch wheels on their site. Do they fit without spacers?

Hmm...I was wondering how the black ones would look on my car. I'd like to keep the red/black scheme going. But I am a fan of really shiny aluminum...

Anyone know what kind of back spacing you would need to run these? I'm particularly interested in some 17X8s up front and 17X9 out back. If anyone knows the spacing and stuff I'll call up the company and ask some questions.

Also, I would imagine that you could remove the center caps and find a local shop to make some custom ones. Much like BlueZee did on his ZR1s. Perhaps replace that Hot Wheels logo with a bow tie or Firebird. Besides, who doesn't want a life-size Hot Wheels car?

I think someone already has the polished one on their car. I may be wrong though. I'd go with the black ones because they go along with the heritage stripes.

I looked all over this site and didn't see anyone else with them. And I'm starting to lean toward the black too...

So does anyone have any idea of what backspacing/off set/ etc. it would take to run the 17X8 and 17X9 wheels? I'll call up the company and find out if they make them in those sizes for you guys.

with a omm offset the front can take a 4.5 backspacing for the 17x8. for the 17x9 with a 0mm offset 4.5 - 5 backspacing would work i'm pretty sure.

And actually i don't like the polished ones I don't know they just don't look right. I think black would definately be the way to go.

I just called and asked about the black ones.

The 17X8 come with a 4.5" backspacing
The 17X9 come with a 5" backspacing
Both have a 0mm offset.

These are for the black ones, I imagine the polished/chrome ones are the same.

They're pretty much a perfect fit.

And what do you guys think about buying the polished ones and painting the little insert things around the edges black? I'd photoshop it but I don't have the program on this computer.

Well that's one down.

Should we try to get a group purchase going? Is anyone else really interested? I personally can't afford them right now (new engine is sucking up my money) but I'd like to invest in a set in the near future.

Yeah kinda... But some custom bow ties would look mighty nice. Or just a blank cap.

IMO, that's the best part. We've got threads all over the boards looking for 1:18 scale 3rd gen Hot Wheels. What red blooded American car guy doesn't like Hot Wheels!! With the inserts painted black, they sorta look like the early 70's Gm rally wheels.

wow yeah the back spacing would be perfect. I like the polished with the blacked out inserts as well. The price is right...the new paint has left me a little short or i would be in for a group buy as well.
