Hood opinion

Ok so I am about to buy a hood. This Friday to be exact. What do you guys think.... I am tossed up between the 3" Cervivi Hood, and the VFN Fiberglass L-88 hood, a bit more arigional.

Anyways, the prices are close and the clearance I gain are close too. Here is a pic of the L-88 and you all know what the Cervini looks like.

The car is a sleek, fast monster. Or is soon will be. If you dont know allready, its got a 500 HP 385, T-56, moser 12 bolt with 4.11s, lambo door hinges custom guages, seats, a 6 point and 5 pnt harness. All Sphoon stuff too....N20..and stuff, the list goes on, but you get the picture I am sure.

The car will be good old Arctic white when it gets painted. Thanks for any input.

i think the L88 would be sharp but you'll have to accent it with something being all white i don't think it would look good then. Maybe throw some black in it somewhere. Than paint the headlight pockets black

Well, if the other hood is just a 3" cowl, I would think the L88 hood would be alright. I seen a L88 hood in person a couple weeks ago on a red camaro and it really caught my eye.

there is a pic of a guy that just painted his 3" Cervini....

Looks real nice, but then again it is just another Cowl.

Thanks for all the opinions, I am leaning twords the L-88 so far.

As for it needing some accenting, I hear ya, no idea what but you guys are right, seems like all white might need a little more to it.hmmmmm... I really wanna just keep it all 1 color though, no stripes or anything........ hmmmm..... Not sure what to do.

Well both are nice hoods. You can't go wrong with the Cervinis cowl. One of my favorites. I think the L-88 looks sweet too. I would probably go with the L-88 since you don't see them as much and will make your car stand out a little more.

I would say the Cervini butI have one so I am biased. The L88 hood does not look good in my opinion. I don't think it flows well with the car. Here is a pic of mine...

Don't do it, god is that ugly! There's a reason you see so many cowl hoods. They look great! Go with the one just like Luvmy92's.

I too vote for the hood above (the yellow one with dual intakes) but my buddy has that hood on his mustang so I can't buy it myself.

I am DEFINETLY not getting that dual snorkel hood! I can't tell you how much I don't like that hood. If I had 2 turbos to feed, then maybe, but I don't. I have 1 hungry SBC. When I say, I am considering the Cervini hood, I am talking about the cowl.

With that said, thanks for all the help guys. I still am leaning twords the L-88 hood. I am gonna be keeping it all white though. So the Cervini is still an oprtion, as the L-88 might not look great all white and no accents.

I wonder what the L-88 hood looks like underneath? I need it to be a finished underside. I know the Cervini is. If the L-88 is bare. Cervini might come out ontop...... Keep posting you opinions... I have never been so, on the wall, about something that has to do with my car.

Thanks for the help.

ps- 87CIZ, that was an awsome favor you did, finding that blue camaro's site. Thanks a TON!

Cervini cowl....That has got to be the best looking cowl hood out there. It looks like someone designed it to fit the lines of the car. instead of just slapping a cowl scoop on a flat hood. It flows great with the lines of the car. Looking at how hot the cars in this thread look. Its an easy choice for me.

The L88 looks a little bulky, not as clean.

I see what you are saying Mike. I was just really considering the L-88 for the "origional" factor and the -100 bucks in price. But yeah, I sorta think that I might be begining to lean back over to Cervini. It is one of the best cowls for any car, ever. Flows great. But then again there is the distinctive look of the L-88..... UGH!!!!!!!!.... Well it is only Tues. I am ordering Friday... I got a few days to deside....

Nice input Mike. Keep it comin' this is all very helpful

I'm guessing you'll get the L-88, paint it all white, won't like the looks of it being all white, add some accents, hate it, wished you'd bought the Cervini!! Make the right choice the first time - BUY THE CERVINI!!

Cervini's, hands down! Never liked the L88 anyways, and I have never seen a Cervini in oerson, only pics. They are the SWEETEST HOODS, IMHO! And I've had a standard cowl hood before, but would have gone for a Cervinis in a HEARTBEAT! Couldn't find one back then. Besides, I got the 'glass cowl hood in trade for my IROC hood. Straight swap.

UGH! The Cervini I thought of, was the same width cowl hood, but no scoops.

Personally, I wouldn't do either. I'll try to find a pic of what I mean...

its nothing to me but i've heard quite a few people complain about the fitment of cervini's hoods. i dont know if vfn's are any better. i think the car would look great with a jongbloed hood 3 inch or 5 inch.

Thanks for all the compliments guys, they are very appreciated... I have put more work into that car than anything else in my life. And that site to, sorta. I try to post stuff that will help others build their thirdgens. Sorta like a step-by-step... A LOT has happened since the last update. If you like the site so far, you are gonna love it after tonight. I am totally done with the wiring, and I will have tossed the interior back in. Motor is all done and ready to get fired up and tuned and so on. Might try to get a cool pic of the purge being used... Anyyywayyss.. I am straying from the point, big time....

The cervini looks much more sleek than the L-88, so that is why I might go with it. I also know they have nice finished undersides. Big plus. I really want to keep the car 100% white, never been a fan of accenting anything. Kinda feel like accents in the paint are like tatoos and I one day I might get sick of it. Granted it can all get painted over, but still...egh...

Looks like it is gonna be all white, with a Cervini... Nice and smooth...

Unless someone can really convince me otherwise... hehe....

-Dennis

p.s.- I do put just about every last cent into this car, it is not such a strange situation as you might think. My life just happen to fall into a very lucky little nitch and I am taking advantage of at much as I can. Maybe I will explain it sometime, lol.

WOW, Back on the fence.

I was just about totally old on the Cervini, until I say a PS that 87CIZ made of that side shot. With that black accent idea. Holly crap it looks good. I am gonna make it my desktop and see how much I like it as the day goes on. As of right now I love it.

Let me know what you all think

OK so I sorta want to have my mind made up by tonight/tomorrow. There is a chance that I have to wait another week (car is nickle and dimeing me to death), but appart from that this is how things stand.

1---Jongboed 3"

2---Cervini 3"

3---VFN L-88 (3.5" clearance)

OK #1, some guys seem to like this hood, but I think it looks like the engine bay is inflating like a balloon due to the round sides of the cowl. So that is pretty much out of the question.

#2, Very nice looking, finished underside. Smooth lines, very nice gradual increase in height. Fits the look of the car, pretty much everything smoothed out. Nice and flat-ish. Doesn't make the car stand out too much (what I am looking for. I do not like calling attention to myself... the motor will do that). Strong candidate.

#3 New origional look. $100 cheaper than Cervini. Something that also doesn't stick out too harshly. Bigest selling point is I just really like the shape of the scoop.

Well I am like 60% 40% leaning twords the Cervini.......

If anyone has pics or suggestions that can help me out (the help so far has been great) then please do.... I am gonna go read over this entire post again and see how I feel. lol

Well after looking at the vertion of the L-88 hood that VFN sells, it is just way to big and bulky for my car. I am gonna have to drop its approval rating down to about 20%.... 80% going to Cervini. I think by the end of the day. I am gonna be 100% Cervini.

Thanks to 87CIZ for supplying the links to help me decide.

Another thing to think about is that Cervini's hood are very strong..........probably one of the strongest hoods for the camaro. They don't turn out weak fiberglass like some companies out there.
