Head lights dont go up

I bought my car for 600 bucks and i did expect it to have some work to it and it does.My headlights dont seem to want to go up.when i manually put them up and then turn them off they do go down but then if i turn them on again im back at square one.I was successful at getting them to go up once after using a ton of wd-40.Do you think they are jammed after being in the down position for a year?????

i believe ur problem is a headlight motor relay?? Or it might be just the motor it self. Either way neither are very expensive.

Does the motors run when you flip the headlight switch but just doesn't go up? Then it's the motor. If it just don't do anything it's the Relay. The Motors are more common than the Relay. The headlight motor(s) cannot be bought just anywhere. In my location the only place I could get on from was the Dealership. I first bought a used on from this guy I know for $50.00 and it lasted about 2 months! I decided I was tired of getting out in the rain, snow, and etc. to pop the hood and flip up the headlight so I went and bought one from the dealership for $235.00. Yea it's expensive but it does have a 3 year warrenty.

Dont buy anything yet. My firebird does the same exact thing and it took me a whole day to figure it out. Push the switch in a little bit but not far enough that it clicks and hold it then if your lucky the lights will go up then push the switch all the way in till it clicks. Thats how i always have to turn my firebirds lights on. I dont know if thats how your supposed to do it but if its not ive had that car for a year and it always works. No one ever knows how to turn my lights on even after i explain it 10 times so if you dont understand email me at PLAYRS4LIF@aol.com.

Here are two things you can do.
1. Pull the switch out of the dash and check to see if the contacts are acutally making contact. Mine was so bad that it took just the right touch to get the lights to go back down.
2. Pull the headlight assembly out, open up the gear box. If it is full of powder junk, you need to replace the bushings in there. Either find some plastic rod of the right diamtere and cut to fit, or visit www.execpc.com/~rodney1/index.html
and buy a couple of his headlight rebuild kits. They are for Fieros, but they will work for 'birds too, Just pick the one closest to your year car.

Now, if your motor don't work at all...then you will be spending some bucks. If the manual cranks under the hood don't work, but the motor works, then these suggestions should save you some $$$.

Good luck

I will try what everyone has said and let ya know on any progress. When i first bought the car after alot of wd-40 on the motors i was able to get them up.I dont think the motors are shot because after you crank them manually and press the close button they do go down.Thanxs guys

I don't have any input, but I can say that that problem is precisely why I will never buy a Firebird. I hate the headlights. Camaros look more mean.
