I have a 1991 GTA. With my taillights, it looks like I already have a tint going on back there. However, my sidemarkers are another story. I was thinking about hitting them up with VNT nite shades.

I've searched TGO, but I've all I've found is sidemarkers that are 100% tinted. I was looking for a 25% or 50% tint. Has anyone tried this? Does anyone have pics of of their results?

Is it possible to replace the bulbs with higher watt/candle/lumen versions so that they still shine through at 100% brightness? (Worried about street-legality) Or, will this draw too many amps for the wiring?

I was also thinking about replacing the yellow side markers with white ones. My only concern is that it will look corny. Does anyone have a pic of tinted clear ones as well?

Where can I order the clear ones, and do they come with a yellow bulb or a clear bulb? (Again, I'm worried about staying street legal.)

I have mine tinted! I did not use VHT Niteshade, because it did not appear to leave a nice shine. I used Testors (model paint) window tint. I first sanded down my original lights till smooth then lightly coated the lights untill the darkness I desired. I wanted mine to disappear, so mine are very dark, but I added led 194 bulbs to make it it brighter. I polished the painted lights afterward for a great shine.
- A thought that I almost tried when doing mine was to put a bowtie sticker (or pontiac) on the lens, then spray a few coats then remove the sticker and finish spraying, so that light would shine easily through the sticker area.

Tinted mine also. Used Testors clear with a touch of black, multiple coats until I got the shade I wanted. Also did the park lights, now the moisture doesn't show as much when they fog up.

 

I like where your head is at. I think dark side markers would look sweet on your car, just as they do for BADNBLK. The way i always looked at it was that clear sides make them stand out more and why would you want people staring at your side markers. I want them to notice my CAR.

I used VHT niteshade on my old camaro's side markers, but just enough to darken them a little, i was also worried about street legality. What I noticed was that the niteshade DOES leave a dull type of finish.

Maybe if you could spray the inside of the lense the outside would remain shiny, and you could still polish the outside plastic without affecting the darkness of the tint.
Either way the car looks sweet. keep up the good work

I heard that adding clearcoat the outside of the niteshades can bring some shininess to it. Any thoughts?

wgripp - I bet that you could clear the nightshades, but the Testors "window tint" leaves a very nice shine without have to spray twice. You only have to buy one can... cheap and easy! If you already have some nightshades use that then add clear. Just make sure to take the time to sand down the lense so that it is smooth, it will make the end result much better and easier to apply an even coat with out dark spots around part numbers.

 

I hit these with a few coats of NightShades years ago.Although currently not on my car.I was recently warned by the local law of my clear ones not being too legal.Also a have had LEDs & urrenly have Xenon bulbs in the side markers.Only down side with the LEDs is they dont blink when you signal,unless your lights are on already, but they are bright.The Xenons are brighter, but produce more heat.Although these are lower wattage(4 Vs 3 standard) then some earlier xenons(6) i bought a year or 2 ago.They are pretty shiny & smooth lokoking now than at first.Mostly from the years of washing/drying the car.

 

Mine are smoked with niteshades a tad lighter than the above pic.

I replaced the 194s with a much brighter bulb, the Sylvania 3652.
Even with the tint they are bright enough the throw a lot of yellow on the pavement.
