just curious as i'd like to know if someone is profiting off of an image i can't even get rights to for a poster? wonder if i can at least get a free copy?

It didn't click to me until just now that your cars are basically twins except for the paint color. I think his has different wheels too but in the post you don't see too much of the wheels.

 

there are other images. it might not be mine but it looks so close...

i found it interesting because primedia won't release these images even to me. everything i have is just copied off their website. Although we took over 500 shots, i have maybe 7. we took two shots of the cover that day, one with the headlights on and one with just the foglights and running lights.

i tried to get them myself because i wanted to make poster just for me... someone beat me too it with my own car...

 

I no expert or anything, but that is your car on that poster. I think you should send someone an email.

That pisses me off that people can just steal an image like that and make money on it.
I once had a guy put a bunch of my car pics on his car domain site and claimed it was his!

primedia owns the right to that image so it's in their hands now as i signed away any rights i had to those shots. every six months or so something like this pops up. guess we need to start trademarking our cars...

 

If I were you I'd email the guy and ask him for a poster of the car in the original color and ask for a good price since it is your car after all

I would at least talk to the guy and see what kind of quality the thing was. A few years ago, a guy was using a couple pics of my car for posters that he was selling on Ebay. People started making posts on this and other forums and emailing me to complain about the poor quality poster that I sold them! They didn't realize that not only was it not me who sold them the posers, but I had nothing to do with the posters except allowing the guy to use the image of my car! At least in this case the pic has been modified enough that people aren't likely to blame you if the poster sucks!

 

That is definetley your car photoshopped to black. Send an email because it is not right.

It kind of sucks if he is making money off your car. I don't know if there is anything you can do legally since you publish the pictures online for the public to see. I'm no lawyer though...

 

i don't own the right to that photo, primedia does. yes the photos are everywhere on the net but not in the high resolution one would need to make a poster the size that this person is doing which is the question of it's quality like mentioned above.

no one said anything about trying to get royalties out of someone, just the opposite but as mentioned above if someone is duplicated or attempting to make money off of something you own others can come looking for you if they don't know. i found out about it because someone emailed the person for information on the poster and they never replied to them so they tracked me down on the internet. that's the point.

 

A better comparison photo (ie. car made black) though can not match it without a hi-res photo...


EDIT: After thinking a little bit, i think i discovered how he made your car black...



The only reason I post this is because I think it is a great way to make your car "cartoony" for signatures and other things of the like. To do this, you use a gradient of your choice and using the poly-lasso tool to select the gradient areas you fill them untill you like em.

i seen that and i was like when was his car ever black? but it does look sharp. maybe get some of them out of him and send them to your friends here on TGO.

 

you have no rights on the interweb, thats why ppl take your pics and can use them legally. if its on a site and the site states that photos cannot be copied or used for sales, then thers nothing holding the guy back.

if this primedia website doesnt have a disclaimer, then thers no foul. they knew once the photos would be posted on the net, they would be up for grabs.

that's not entirely true but that's not what this is about anyhow, i'm not looking to shut the guy down just pointing it out. turns out that he doesn't have the high res photo version so the poster probably isn't that nice. i personally think it's a neat idea and have wanted to do it for awhile but all of my favorite shots i don't have any legal rights to use like the one above and they can come after me wether i use it in a poster or even post it on here.
