tail light tweak

i saw someone's cardomain on here that caught my eye, i don't know who's it is but i love the tail lights. I want to know how he got rid of the yellow patch on the tail lights to black? did he paint or what any ideas? I Would like to do it to mind but want to do it proper. It looks sweet!

O'reilly auto parts sells VHT niteshade spray paint, have to order it though. I've heard other auto stores can also get it, summitracing.com should have it too.

I PM'd steevo about those a while back, when I saw the pic. He still posts, but never responded.

At least somebody has answered, in a round-about way.

But... is there a way to make it red instead of black, i think mine would look better if the yellow turned red not black. do i still use nightshade? or is there some other red tint to use?

Well niteshades does not work from the inside. For some reason when you spray the inner part of the lens since there are ribs on the lens its not smooth like the outside. The paint runs into the grooves and doesnt really tint the whole lens it looks really bad. When you use the testors candle apple red paint on the inside it doesnt do that. It looks a lot better for sure if you paint it from the inside but it is a hassle to get the lens from the tail light apart. But its do-able and you get to clean the inside out and re-seal everything everything up again.

I heard that the niteshade makes the amber light look red. I am thinking of doing it to the front turn signals. Do you have any pics of them lit up?

I have not done it to the front turn signals...but i dont see how. Its clearly black paint. I dont see even if it did how an amber bulb wouldnt fix any coloration problems.

As a matter of fact, I do
I painted mine, clear side markers too, with plastic model paint (clear with very little black). They actually look darker than what the picture shows since the sun was on them. The lighted picture is with LED bulbs behind the lenses, I have since changed them to regular bulbs. They are easily visible during the day

On my Tahoe, I had the Caddy tail light covers, and the lenses themselves were covered in Nightshade...heavily!

Black truck, black covers, black lenses...Didn't last very long. A cop busted me, was going to just give me a warning, until I questioned him...then he started on a ticket instead! At that point, I figured I hasd nothing to lose, so I really started in on him, questioning his reasoning for a ticket instead of just a warning. I mean, I politely asked what the law was, and how my lenses broke the law. That's went he started on the ticket. I eventually just got the warning!

A reak **** though! The very next day, he pulled my wife over in her Camaro, for the blackouts on her car. She had to brake them off, on the spot, to avoid a ticket. I just promised to take some paint thinner to my lenses that night. I didn't take ALL of it off, but left them lightly tinted.

So, depending on your state, VHT or black outs might be "illegal".

Oh yeah...

The funniest part was, my wife was the supervisor for Texas DPS, for the Vehicle Inspection Division! On the TXDPS website, they show a set of blackouts on a blue Camaro, as an example of what it is illegal...What they DON'T tell you is...the blue car with the black stripes on that TX DPS page, is the car of the supervisor of the department that covers that law, and that THAT picture, was taken...IN THEIR PARKING LOT! She had to call me to tell me they went out and took a picture of HER car, to show what is illegal! And no, she didn't get a ticket, warning, or anything for it!
