Hmm...well...you should have atleast removed your tail lights and GFX, and other such items before you started painting.

I think that's the roll-on paint job with Rustoleum & Mineral Spirits.

My dad did that to his '79 Chevy Pickup and it works great for "junker" cars. Would not attempt on anything that wasn't in pretty bad shape to begin with ... and it beats putting a $3,000 paint job on a $1,500 third gen .

Keep the pics coming! Looks like you've at least improved THAT car 10,000%

Re: In Progress Results From Extremely Poor Mans Paint Job

I know a guy who painted his 68 bird with rustoleum and a gravity gun. And his car looks amazing. Maybe you should look into a gravity gun next time. they're not very expensive. I picked mine up at a local auto paint store for about $60. Just remember that a good paint job is 90% prep work and 10% skill.

Re: In Progress Results From Extremely Poor Mans Paint Job

MACCO SUCKS! I don't care how much it costs...my buddy took his iroc there and they jack it up...Orange peel everywhere...they painted the weather stripping...got over spray on the glass...they only pay there prep guy for 1 hour of work...that is not enough prep...I'd rather paint my car with a rattle can then get a free macco paint job.

Keep up the work man. take your time, don't rush. maybe in the future if you want a better paint job, definatly save up and get a gravity gun.

THE prime example of "Pictures don't do this car justice!" if you know what I mean.

But hey, It's your car & you like it. I'm just glad to see 16 year olds working on any domestic car these days! Enjoy the car & start saving that money.

Re: In Progress Results From Extremely Poor Mans Paint Job

Looks a heck of alot better than it did before. Is this with a roller or a brush? This is interesting. Can't wait to see the finished product. I hear ya about being poor, even $300. is alot to some of us, especialy (spell) when your still buying parts to get it running. Were going to be painting mine with the John Deere Blitz Black, but with a gun though. Well keep it up & keep us posted.

Did you take care of all the rust before you started painting? In the 2nd picture there it looks like there is rust onder the paint above the wheel wellon the flare.

Just to clear things up for you buddy, if you didnt ntci it says extremely poor mans paint job, 200-300 macco jobs are not the topic of discussion here.

I personally am pleased with these 25$ results seeing as how it was, well 25$ i mean if you have 3000$ by all means toss it to some paint shop but if you have 25$, you can have a good time and expeirement, i understand i was lazy in dealing with some aspects of it(bondo, rust), but definetly i thought it was an intresting expeirence for only 25$ and if you disagree, well then theres not much that i can say but, alright.

I would rather pay you $300 to paint my TA like you are your camaro, before I would take my car to macco. LOL

Re: In Progress Results From Extremely Poor Mans Paint Job

When you get a chance, please post some pics of the finished project - all the masking work and paper removed. I would like to see the end results as well.
Are you going to do any work on the wheels? Quick sanding, coat of paint etc...
Seeing as the rest of the car will be brighter and have that new paint look.
Great effort

Re: In Progress Results From Extremely Poor Mans Paint Job

For $25 thats is a nice paint job...lol! But like a few other members said paint jobs are 90% prep and 10% skill...I also seen the rust bubble on the fender flare, you should of just took one more day and alittle more bondo or what ever and tried to make it look alittle better before going happy with the paint gun. But my statement still stands it looks alot better than it did!
