Stripes?

Has anyone bought these? Are they worth it? My car is a 92 RS, all red and I was thinking about getting a set of black stripes to break up the red some. Just wondering if these type of stripes or these actual stripes are worthy?

If you know of somewhere better to get stripes let me know, thanks.

Re: Stripes?

they look similar to the actual heritage stripes from the 25th Annv. Heritage Appearance Package...but are noticeably different when on the car. If you just want stripes, and are not concerned with duplicating the Heritage look...they will probably look fine...however for $50 i think the quality may be suspect. You could always buy them and put them on to see if you like them, and if you do...invest in some OEM Heritage Stripes or have stripes painted on...

Some pics of my Heritage Cars to get an idea of how a thirdgen looks w/ stripes...

Re: Stripes?

I've been doing vinyl signs, stripes, graphics and such, for about 8 years now.

Oracal is OK stuff. I always use Avery brand myself. There are different levels of life in the vinyl material though. Like indoors vs outdoors...3yr vs 5yr vs 7yr vs 9yr.

Now, the year span doesn't mean, it's gonna stat peeling, or turn faded, at those marks. They just mean it should last AT LEAST that long, before ANY depredation is seen.

Judging by the $50 price, I'd say that might be the 3yr or indoor stuff.

If you wanted temp stripes, to hold you over until painting or such, sure. We did the same thing to my wife's car. The 90RS had you typical 90s peeling paint, and it was a cheap, easy way to hide, and prevent further peeling. But the whole car was stripped an repainted at tax refund time.

Re: Stripes?

Thanks for the info.

I think I'm going to get them and try them out, If I like the striped look enough on my car I will get stripes painted on.

Thanks again!

Re: Stripes?

My concern is, what level of vinyl are they? If they are the indoor/bottom level, you'll be redoing them, unless you park in a garage AND at work, and the car only sees sunlight during driving.

Spend the extra $, get the correct vinyl, and you'll be happier in the long run.

But, like I said. If you plan on painting the later, like you are just looking for the vinyl stripes, to decide if you like them or not, then I say go for it, even if they are the cheaper grade vinyl. We did, but we KNEW the car was getting a full repaint.

Re: Stripes?

That's pretty much what I'm doing, trying them out to see if I like them and then If I do, I'll have them painted on.

Re: Stripes?

They are thin and not high quality. Because they are so thin, they are almost impossible to get them on correctly. They are a waste of $50, even if you only want them temporary.

Thin doesn't mean low quality. Factory decals are even thinner than vinyl, yet last WAY longer than ANY vinyl products. What defines quality, is the makeup up the material, andthe care you give it.

Even the lowest quality vinyl I could get, is 2-3 year stuff. Which only means it is guaranteed for that time, in outdoor exposure in direct sunlight, not that it'll suddenly die after that time. With proper shading and care, it could easily look good 7+ years later. Indoors, there's no telling how long it would last, or a show car that only saw indoors, but show cars typically have paint.

Re: Stripes?

These stripes are crap, believe it or not. I have had them in my hands. Two body men agreed. Just trying to save the guy $50. Quality stripes cost way more than $50.

Re: Stripes?

Sorry, I thought you meant vinyl stripes in general $50 stripes? Sure. I bet they are the cheapest grade of vinyl. They were Oracal after all. There is a reason I only use Avery. Oracal id OK for home users, I guess. But I never worked in a retail shop that didn't use Oracal, but one shop. I learned quickly, the difference between the two.

But if they are VERY temporary, sure.
