anyone see the new T/A wheels from Year one?
Year One has released the snowflake wheel for the 2nd gens in a 17x9 size. They look awsome and the first thing I thought was why cant this be done with the Iroc wheels and the 91-92 wheel. Here is a link to some pics of them :

Re: anyone see the new T/A wheels from Year one?
Like was stated, Year One is building the Burt Reynold's Bandit. They cost like 100k a piece(the car, not the rims). Also, I am pretty sure you can get IROC style rims up to 18", maybe even 20" already...

For what Year One is charging for those wheels, I'd bet you can find a smaller wheel manufacturer with a CNC that could give you what you want.

17x9 isn't the only size you can get either.
Oasis offered to make GTA duplicates (not 2nd gen snowflakes), but in larger diameters/widths, but they wanted 25 pre-paid orders. You aren't going to get 25 people to pay up front, before a sample is made. And they only wanted like $300-$400 each, estimated cost.
I'd love to get a set, but I'm not turning over $1200-$1600 (estimated cost+tax), then waiting 6 months to see what they made, how good they are, etc.

I'd be curious to see what these look like on a third gen T/A.
Photochop anyone?

Re: anyone see the new T/A wheels from Year one?
which is why nobody will ever make them, because no wheel manufacturer is going to go out on a limb making something that'll never sell. No manufacturer would do that. It's quite a standard process for a manufacturer to be paid for their development time and materials unless there's some sort of contract guaranteeing a minimum purchase from the buyer. The truth is, $300-400 for a custom made CNC wheel is dirt cheap.
Why not? They come out with brand new designs every year. These would be no different. Easier really. The design phase is already done. All they would have to do, is enlarge the dimensions.

Re: anyone see the new T/A wheels from Year one?
They would sell. Probably not a lot at first, but once word got out that there were bigger Formula "Dished-Tech's", GTA, & Iroc styled rims..Whoa! Sign me up! Look at how much people are asking & paying for the stock 16"s now. There's that vintage wheel company selling bigger, stock-styled rims for just about everything before 1973. Hopefully we're next.
-
I also wish somebody would repop the original ploycast Honeycombs in 16"s. The "Honeycomb" was rubber composite so they don't get scratched too easily. They're not that light, but boy would look pretty nice on a Third Gen 'Bird!

Re: anyone see the new T/A wheels from Year one?
Unfortunately the thirdgen market has shown time after time that although a bunch of people will say they'll buy something, that amount shrinks alot when it actually comes time to pay for them. It's just not a car that alot of people are willing to dump lots of money into. That's why their isn't alot of aftermarket support. Thankfully so many things fit from 4th gens, otherwise their would be even less available.

But, the rims would fit MANY GMs, not JUST 3rd gens.

Re: anyone see the new T/A wheels from Year one?
I agree with Slowfast !!!!!! 17 x 9" GTA rims would be awsome, larger wouldn't hurt either....... Our wheels are lookin small these days...... but I would want to keep the original style !
There are many 3rd Gens still around with owners that still care for them.... obviously!
I do agree that only a certain % of people would buy them but the design is already there. I've even thought about goin to a local vendor to see what can be done with a spare set.

Re: anyone see the new T/A wheels from Year one?
Add in all the G-body folks, too...can anyone say Grand National, aka GTA rims! That's the talk I heard when I was a teenager... "No '68-'72 Chevelles will ever be desireable unless they are original Big Block cars and even those will NEVER be worth as much as a Corvette"...LOL
. Hell, you can't even touch a clean 6 banger for under $8 grand. The same was true for the Second-Gen T/A's & Formulas. '70 -'76 455 'Birds were dirt cheap & Pontiac made tons of '77 -'79 'Birds, thanks to Burt Reynolds. Now those are gettin pricey and hard to find. Our cars will be too and sooner than you might think. 10 years from now those 1LE, TTA, B4C, & L98 cars will get a lot more respect, especially since the new Camaro is gonna cost too much for the Average Joe...(hey, isn't that why their sales tanked and the F-cars rode off into the sunset in 2002?).
-
Back to topic: Yeah, I think there's enough people interested out there for some repop jobber to make these rims. Look at all those Riicer companies. They come and go like Johns at those "Rooms by the Hour" joints. They make all kinds of stuff that nobody wants...rims too!

17 inch GTA weels. Yes!
There's a gent on this forum in Mississippi who dropped an LS1 in his 92 TA Vert and found some gold Epsilon three peice wheels in gold to go with his Jade colored car. 17 inches of sexy.
Missing my bookmarks about now.

That would be Powermite's car. IMO, the most tasteful ThirdGen evar!

Re: anyone see the new T/A wheels from Year one?
It doesn't matter what it fits. It matters who would buy it. An OEM reproduction wheel is going to find a very limited market compared to something like a TT2 or a Weld wheel. All of the cars that have the same offset and bolt pattern as ours are cars that are as old or older than our cars. Other than a few thirdgenners and a handful of G-body guys, very few would buy these wheels... at least very few as far as manufacturers are concerned. Hell, wheels in our size/offset in general are a drop in the bucket compared to FWD offset wheels. Look at how many companies make wheels for imports compared to companies making wheels for domestics. It's a small market. Out of that small market, most of it is dominated by the FWD offset that the 4th gens, corvettes and all 2wd trucks use.
