blk rims w/ blk car?

i have a black '83 z-28 with the Iroc rims. for a second set of rims for track days i was wondering if black rims would look good. or would it be too
"Knight Rider" looking? i see these road race cars on Speed channel and they look cool with the matte black rims....anyone have pics?

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

awesome looking, charlie! you should definately do the straight black look...no polished rim....i'm thinking this look is good for me too! i'm not sure i like the polished rim pictures....or maybe it's the rims....

I use white lettered tires to break up the black. I think it looks good.

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

first off i love this thread

2nd what you should do chairlie is pain your z06 wheels black and keep the center caps silver or polished or crome but dont do the lip, and if that doesnt look good just paint the centers, try getting some clear side markers it will look alot better on a black car then the amber

and if you get black wheels get black tint too

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

I think it looks good. I've got that chrome lip around those stock wheels, and I like it. I think full black looks good too, though.

Sorry, the picture doesn't show a whole lot of the wheel, but its the best one I've got for it.

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

That picture is just my IROC with the rims photoshoped. I had a friend do that awhile ago. The car will be all black. With a big block hood and a 5" spoiler. I am in the process of doing the interior right now all black. The the windows will be a 5% or 15% window tint. Then I was thinking full black 18x9.5 c6 zo6 rims. Then also having the c6 zo6 brakes behind it. The thing is. I don't want the rims to take away from what's behind them(i.e. big ****** brakes). So that's why I am thinking full black rims. But the polished lip dose look good. Also I was thinking clear corners. But i have even though of sparying everything with a layer of night shades. Still think abought the details. Got to get the car running again first. lol. Adam :-)

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

the polished lip would take away from the big brakes{ rotor and calipar} but the only problem with black{ i love my black car} is tha you need a minor secondary color to make the black stand out to its fullest.

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

AN all black car is unpredictable. If i saw an all black car pull up next to me im wondering.....Is he fast? This looks like "he" has some "Heat" under the hood. All black is the trend. Whether is an escalade, $tang, tahoe, srt pee 4, etc.

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

You mean NASCAR, right?..1991? Keep 'em guessin'! "does this black beast beast next to me do 13"s? or 11's?"
I just think the all black look, especially with the c6 rims, looks super nasty on our camaros....the best look on TGO IMHO!!!...nice job Charlito!

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

The minor color is going to be red. I'll have the calpers red. I was also thnking about doing the red tail light mod. And the badge on the finder will have some red in it. Plus the red bowtie on the fog light grill. S that all shold have a good contrast to the black.

Also. The car will be fast. I'm going to build a 383(500hp/500tq) motor. Have the 6 speed tranny and it will have 4.10's in the rear. Plus all the hotchkis stuff under the car for the twistes.

I know this isn't a third gen. But it looks sooooooo good. It's pretty much what I want my iroc to look like.

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

I had got some cheap black wheels from Summit, but I did not like the look on my car. My car is Metallic Black and it seemed just too black. Maybe if I had the wheels painted to match the paint and put the raised white letter tires on then it might have looked nice. But I like polished aluminum rims that I aso got from summit. Take a look.

I know the tires on the black rims needed tire black.

I wish!!! No my painter talked me out of it, at least for now. There is a couple other things that I wanted to do while in the body shop, and he made it pretty clear that we just keep adding to an 7 year old paint job (that still looks great). We will wait untill I do the whole thing over. You guys will be the first to know when I do something with it!

It's personal preference....
I prefer the polished lip over everything being black...

Uh, sorry, "too Knight Rider-ish"

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

I’d go for black rims with a black car, they look more a part of the car. I use to have chrome on my black 90 and they stand out but I like my car making the statement not my wheels.

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

Most full black wheels look like those spare wheels you see on family sedans and stuff... makes a car look cheap IMO. There are some exceptions though. Id say if you wanted black wheels go with the polished lip.

and i'd say polished lip all the way. or at least white raised lettering on the tires otherwise the black becomes a bit overwhelming.

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

I'm not really feeling the polished lip idea. which is weird because my car is all grey with polished gta's....I don't know, If I had an all black car I would go ALL black all the way down to the tailights.

Toxik....if you had yellow lettering for those wheels on that Monte...it would be SO NASCAR.....looks good though.

As for the original question, I think black rims look good, but they really do need the Chrome or polished lip to separate the colors just a bit.

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

That's just to big of a polished lip on those gta rims for my taste. I'm still debating on a small polished lip or all black. I think I am goin to go all black though. And whats even better is I just picked up a set of those c5 z06 rims that are photoshoped on my iroc. So I can see what it will look like in real life. Adam :-)

Re: blk rims w/ blk car?

I got the factory C5 Z06 ones. But I got 4 rears. So they are 18x9.5 all the way around. I just got them also. But the car needs a motor before wheels. I just got a good deal on them. I want to get them powder coated all black. But it depends on cost. I might just paint them if it's to much. Adam :-)
