Hi all, I am sure this has been done before, but since views change over time figured I would ask this.

I am painting an 86 TA, with a Blue Metallic.
The question I have is, should I go with a two tone, aka ground effects a different color, or single tone.

For those that vote two tone, what color you think goes well with blue metallic. I happen to have extra silver metallic.

I have done my 85 TA in single tone black, and it looks really nice.

But figured I would get your opinions before I get to painting.

 

well since two tone i beileve came on 86 cars, and you have the monotone 85, id say go for the two tone. t/a's look awesome in metallic blue with a metallic siver gfx..

Midnight blue w/silver metallic ground effects or hood/roof/hatch would look awsome.

 

Single....use graphics or lettering as an accent

 

I vote single tone. Partly in affect that i have a two tone car that I cannot find good condition gfx pieces for, and I even have a common color!! If you go with single tone, you can just paint it and forget it.

Two tone is kind of a fad unless you go halfway or most of the way up the car but even that look is starting to get really old(the chip foose look). It looked cool in the 80s but nowadays it might look like you swapped parts from a different painted car. Or it might look awesome, but only with the right colors.

We're talking all black also. You paint any car all black even a dodge neon and that car is going to look good. All black is timeless. You also got a trans am. Black is kind of a popular color for trans ams over the years.

 

The two tone gfx looks dated. It might have been ok in the 80s but not anymore. Same thing with black painted headlight buckets on the camaros, it just doesnt look good anymore. Go with a solid color and some nice modern rims and the car will look great.

 

I will probably go single tone, but not black, since I already have a single tone black TA.
I have a custom mix blue metallic that I made, which looks great on the cut in parts, so I will probably do the entire car in that color.

As for rims, I have no clue exactly what I want and a budget.
I may dress up the originals, for now, until I sell my next project car.

After this car, I have to restore an 86 Firebird and sell it.
Which should pay for the cost of this build.

After that, I might consider buying some nice rims for my daily.

 

i say the silver/metalic gray on g.f.x. , as per your first post . thats what i'm going with , i feel it will tie in with the new ZQ8 wheels i just installed . good luck .
