Stripes or no stripes?!

I'm planning on getting my '89 Firebird repainted soon. I was thinking Flame Metallic Red with white stripes, but after looking at my car's features I have become unsure. I just wanted to take a poll and get people's opinion on the matter. Here's a pic of my car now and something like I want it to look like.
I found this pic of a painted T/A it belongs to Spitzfiya he posted some pics of his recently painted T/A (pictured) Hope he doesnt mind me using his idea lol you can view the rest of his car here:

Now here is a pic of my car:

Here is what I'm thinking (respectively add white stripes and a red body)

Opinions and ideas are wanted and appreciated!

Re: Stripes or no stripes?!

I say leave them out. I just dont think it looks right... Just my 0.02

When i think stripes, i usually think nice fat rallye stripes. But the thirdgen is a very "slender" car, and just doesnt belong.

Re: Stripes or no stripes?!

i was thinking about stripes on my car aswell....doing black on the orange-ish color....but i feel that for racing stripes there should be a spot that they start off from, and on our cars theres not many main accent points. i think that racing stripes on our cars only look good if you have the ram air II hood...but thats just me, i know a lot of people hate the ram air's

I think it would look pretty sick. perhaps you could do the stripes from the vents back, but in the same general shape as spitzfiya

Yeh I don't particularly care for the RAM AIR II either, but that's the same feeling I got when I looked at my car.

Re: Stripes or no stripes?!

Hey man glad you grabbed some inspiration from the Firebird, Id say no go on a red Trans Am with white stripes.

Bad color combination for stripes

I think stripes are hokey but the only reason I did mine is because we had a 69 Camaro in our shop that we painted the EXACT same paint scheme...and it looked incredible.

The only reason why it worked well on the Firebird is because you can barely see it! It's black stripes on Gun Metal grey...therefore you actually have to look at it to see them it's a good thing they don't catch the eye...or else i don't think it would of worked.

But good luck! I'm all for painting your GTA a nice cherry red all the way around (It will turn heads), Ill be keeping my GTA that color and all one color too.

Re: Stripes or no stripes?!

my 83 trans am is in primer now ready for paint the engine bay and jams have been painted to save money at body shop for spray, im painting it black i ordered the decal kit 4 it in silver, and it came with all the original striping should i use it? or does anyone want them all wrapped up still with wax paper type cover still in fed ex tube?

Does anyone know where to find a pic of that color combination? so i can see what mine may look like? should i buy an expensive type of black paint?

Re: Stripes or no stripes?!

Well, Thanks to everyone whose helped me with this decision. Right now the funds are more then insufficient for getting it painted, but any ideas on a ballpark price of having it sanded down to base, new primer, and then the red paint? Any suggestions for a place to get it painted? You guys rock! Thanks again!
