hard water stains??

i just got a new paint job and my car is black. My sprinklers in the front yard are on well water and while i was on vacation they sprayed my car for a week straight and i can;t get out the hard water stains with just soap and water do you guys know any trciks?? needless to say i cleared out my garage and started putting my car in there after this incident. also i was thinking of reclearing my z 28 rims what kind of prep would i need to do to get them ready to reclearcoat. The clearcoat is peeling off and the front rims don't shine as well as the back ones any one ever done this. thanks.

try washing the car with hot water. If that doesn't break down the water spots, you might need to try an abrasive, like waxing the car. If neither of these work, try a professional grade clay bar. I would think that the hot water and some good car wash detergent will do the trick.

Add some white vinegar to your soap water.

clay bars work good for deep cleaning cleaned my bird made it perfectly smooth. First used my dri-wash"http://dri-wash.com/eti/driwash.html" stuff then the clay worked out good. You can order 8oz bottles of the dri-wash. Just tell them you want to sample it first. Or go with clay majic your choce your car. A quick fix you could try is meguires quick detail usually about 5-$7. I used to have the same problem thats why I use the dri-wash stuff, because I have well water also.

I tried the meguiars stuff, didn't work with a hoot, I just finished polishing with a 3M product I found at Wal Mart, can't remember the name, I'll get it to you tomorrow. Anyway, it got rid of all my hard water spots, I went over it with a flourescent light to make sure, looks better now than when it got a new paint job last winter

The water probably etched the wax on your car. Use some sort of polish (make sure its true abrasive polish) and polish the spots until theyre gone, then re-wax the spots.

the one I used is called "finish restorer" it came in a little bottle (I think 8 oz) and was more than enough to do the whole car. The flourescent light is the trick to seeing all the spots, those babys show every imperfection in a paint job.

Hate to say it but polishing takes alot of time and stuff, but i think that if you used regular house hold viniger, bout 50/50 w/ water it would take it right out, it did on my big black truck that was niglected for 17 years. . . after you do viniger get some wax and spend the whole day waxing and polishing!

I have the water spots on my windows. Will the vinigar mixture work on the windows as well? I have removed the louver that was on the back window. My husband is going to repaint it because it has faded over time. The back window is the worst because the previous owner never lifted the louver to clean the back window. Please let me know if the vinigar will work or what else I could use. It seems to be on the inside as well as the outside. Thanks.

Car wax (paste) should do the job for the window too.

Mothers prewax cleaner works great on water spots. Both my IROC and S10 have black paint and this stuff always works.

vinegar is the easy way. It will remove them without any problem and isn't abrasive . It's the only thing that would remove 25+ years of hard water from the picture window on my house after we moved in.
