So I bought a brand new, NOT PREOWNED 1988 Trans Am GTA!

I wasn't sure where to put this, but since I painted the car, I put it under detailing and appearance. And the tittle is correct. I bought it brand new off ebay, sadly its only a 1/25th scale and not 1/1 scale. I bought it thinking it was just this years new release models...no, this kit was actually made in 1988! The instructions style and box style scream 80's. I wish it was an actual Trans Am and not GTA (fender vents) but maybe I'll buy an actual 87 Trans Am. I plan to make this as close to my Trans Am as possible. Including the paint schem, crosslace wheels, 4th gen spoiler and center console... I'll updated as I complete it...

it was about $28 shipped which isn't that bad IMO... Same as it would have been at a hobby store...

Re: So I bought a brand new, NOT PREOWNED 1988 Trans Am GTA!

Revell just came back out with one of their easy builder kits, an 85 IROC that i'm trying to get, they also came back out with their 91 firebird. buddy of mine has the 89 TTA model they once made. my dad has the BIG 1/4 scale 1984 Z28 they made years ago, along with the same scale 1982 pace car. i'm gonna try and get the pace car next time I go home, it needs to be finished but it's all there. I'm also on the hunt for the 1992 Z28 AMT Ertl made so I can hack it up to build a model of my 91 Z28 vert. And the 1/4 scale IROC that was made in the 80's, it has a sweet baby tuned port lol

yeah, I already have the 91 Firebird and actually plan on using that interior instead. I just need a 4th gen spoiler and a cowl hood which will be done this weekend...

That's pretty sweet! I picked up a 1992 Z28 model off of ebay a few years back and made it into a "mini me" of my car. I wouldn't mind picking up some more 3rd gen Camaros and Firebirds.

Re: So I bought a brand new, NOT PREOWNED 1988 Trans Am GTA!

quick update
I am about 97% finished with it. I have found myself with alot of free time recently so I decided to proceed with the tiny thirdgen build. I was able to make the 92 Trans Am wing look like a 4th gen wing by grinding and molding some of it. I still need to work on the cowl-ed hood...

im trying do do the same thing with a 200mm RC car(HPI). Sadly the only kit i've found is a 230mm iroc replica body. Anyone know if anyone makes a camaro RC body spec a 91 or 92, i've even bought 5 star wheels and tires to match my c6's

Re: So I bought a brand new, NOT PREOWNED 1988 Trans Am GTA!

thought this might help you if your still looking:

http://www2.stevenshobby.com:5641/

if the link didn't take you right to it, go to the product listing tab, and search trans am. There is a 1985 just the way you'd like it with vents. Good luck, i got the discontinued Heritage edition model to duplicate my heritage RS and working on getting a T/A to duplicate my T/A. Looks good!

that looks great!

You should pick up some really really light grit sand paper and wetsand that body.. get rid of the orange peel thats on it!

You can check out www.automotiveforums. com and go to car modeling or whatever to check out the extent these guys go to with mdoel cars!

Now who wants to send me one of those for xmas? lol

Re: So I bought a brand new, NOT PREOWNED 1988 Trans Am GTA!

Hey! I had that same kit when I was a kid! I probably still have pieces of it somewhere, IIRC, it only made it a year or two as a whole car. The red '91-'92 Formula didn't pull through either, although I think it lasted longer.

you forgot to paint the overflow and washer bottles yellow...

I used to build models too, heres a lt5 powered third gen (x body) I finished in 2003. I lost interest in them when I could starting building the 1:1 scale cars

No kidding! I have a pile of them that haven't been touched since I bought my first car. Maybe they will get built when I'm old and gray. Haven't ridden a bike in years either
