I like that KITT {sp?,, it's like neon yellowish color) " carnuba wash & wax". It's cheap (like $5 for a good size bottle)& it doesn't harm/strip the existing wax.
Stuff you use in the driveway is 'wax' just about as much as the crap at the carwash.

I prefer Rain-X's car wash, its kinda spendy (for a car wash I guess.. about 5-6 bucks) but it holds up really well, and it has the sheeting action that all Rain-X products have. Id check it out if you can, look for it at Wal-Mart.

since I don't have anywhere shady to wash my car I just take it down to a nearby car wash and use the sprayers. I bring along a wash mit for the bottom half and bugs, dry it with a california water blade (handy hint, they're now sold at Target for 12.95) along with an absorber, then I take it home and do any polishing/waxing in the garage.

I use #7 powder. It's the best I've tried (I've used most soaps at least once). It's cheap, and it keeps it's lather. Most of that other crap is just a bucket of soapy water by the time I get to the end of my car. I used the #7 and I could do 2 or 3 cars before I had to agitate the water for more suds.

Soap?!? I can't remember the last time I actually washed the Z. For my other cars I use Zip car wash. Seems to work ok.

I use Meguiar's Rich Suds (blue)and the pink stuff which I think is Soft Suds.
Works really well and the trick behind any car wash product is to rinse off with a flow of water not a spray. The water just rolls off the car thus cutting down on spotting and drying time. I've had nothing but great results.

125,000 miles and still going strong.
Only minor mods planned for the near future.
Like headers, flowmaster exhaust, some ignition mods, K&N airfilter, Perhaps a chip if needed.
Waiting for the motor to blow up so I can install a ZZ4 crate motor. Let's just hope it don't blow up too soon.

Meguiar's, the pink stuff is the soap I just tried and I must say I like it. I also brought a bottle of the eagle one wet car wash. Have not used it yet though.
Liquid laundry detergent works fine, and serves more than one purpose. Tide works best when your're doing a rebuild on an engine and need to get the gunk out-I've never found anything that works better for that. After working under the car-it gets your hands, arms, and clothes clean. It's always shined up the cars I've had very nicely. If you have a very expensive paint job, I wouldn't do it though. I use this method on the 2000 Saturn a.k.a. S#%*box and a 96 Sebring-newer cars with clear coat special paint crap or whatever and it works great-these cars I could care less if they get tiny scractes on them-but I have not had a problem with scratches!
Personally I would never use a household cleaner on my car. I have used liquid Dawn to strip all the old wax and polish off but that is it.
I would be really afraid of scratching the paint with a powered detergent. Also these types of cleaners will strip all the oils from your paint.
I am not badmouthing Camaro Chicks ideas but it is not something I would do. I have never tried it so I could be wrong, maybe she has the right idea.

On these newer cars-it's alright. Their paint is awfully new and they're all plastic underneath-so it doesn't hurt them. They are also made with a water-based paint, so you can use pretty much any kind of detergent on them. On an older car like ours, I would NEVER do this (unless the paint was peeling off and it didn'nt matter anyway) especially on a new paint job. I would use a non-wax removing car wash (Mothers make a product like this as I'm sure many other manufacturers do), and buy a wax stripper to use once or twice year to remove old wax and the crap that has a tendancy to get built up in it.
Hmm... so there is another CamaroChick out there.. anyways, I go with the Dawn, too! I mean if it can work on my dad's cooking, it must do wonders for my car! Plus, they are repaving the roads out by my house and it actually helps get that nasty butt black stuff off my car....
