clearcoat CHROME ???
is it possible ? i was going to paint my stock valve covers . but , at Cruisin The Coast swap meet . i found a new chrome set at a price i could not pass up . i have seen dupli-color clear for wheels . would/could this work on chrome ? i know they would need to be acetone or thinner cleaned prior . any feed back on this is welcome . thanks .

Re: clearcoat CHROME ???
I thought chrome was supposed to be pretty corrosion resistant in general? Polished aluminum is what would maybe need clearcoat.

Re: clearcoat CHROME ???
No need to clear chrome. Chrome is actually
Base coat of copper (only if needed to fill in pits that couldnt be sanded out)
Nickel This is your color so to say. Shinny
Chrome is clear and only there to protect the nickel from oxidizing.
Put a good coat of carnuba wax on then and buff it off just like a paint job.

Re: clearcoat CHROME ???
Por15 makes a clearcoat for chrome, but I did not have much luck with it. I tried several times but the finish always was very cloudy. I finally removed it and gave up. This was on a chrome oil pan that I thought would be good to have extra protection on it.

I do chrome plating ,etc..for a living. read my above post. If the chrome is peeling or already bubbling its to late. the clear will flake right off also.
Just like a paint job. anything you put on top is only as good as the base on the part.

WOW due what more dp you want to hear. Go for it waste your $ if you like.
Just incase you didnt see it before. HERE.........
If there is ANYTHING wrong with the CHROME ALREADY clear coating it isnt gonna help anything or make it last longer. Hell you will spend more time in Prepping the parts then you can buy a new set of summit chrome covers.

IF YOU MUST clear coat chrome use this. I use either This product or Clear powder coating on Polished stuff I do.
Its a 2 part system. an activator and the clear.
http://www.por15.com/GLISTEN-PC/productinfo/GPCGG/
NORMAL AUTOMOTIVE CLEAR COAT WILL NOT WORK. because you need to scuff the surface for adhesion.
Ive been doing the stuff for 10 years but hey what do I know..
