How often do you drive your car?

My IROC Is not my daily driver and all I hear is crap from my friends how I dont drive it enough. And they always say "Geez you think you got a Lamborghini or something"

Specialy because I wont drive it to school and leave it in the parking lot. Its really hard to find a IROC around here and I dont want dents or scratches from careless people in the parking lot. That and why put miles on my car just to go to school when I got another car?

Then when I do drive it all I hear is "Dude you drive this car like a grama" Just because I dont pin my car every friggin corner. I mean if a pony or sumthin wanted to race, I would. But I dont see flooring your car 15 times a night for nuttin

Sorry venting

IROC,

I've got no problem with that. My '86 has 47,000 miles, so you figure it out. I don't park where I don't feel comfortable leaving the car either. I guess that's why we probably both have NICE older cars, not sleds. That's also why I drive other cars, too. After they have beaten up and gone through several Niisans and Mousetanks, they'll still be drooling over your ThirdGen.

I fully understand your position, but this is reserved as a Technical board. This isn't really a technical question, so unfortunately I'll have to move it to the Appearnce Board, since it is more related to body preservation.

Vaders car is very clean, I've seen pictures

I can relate. I used to live about half a mile away from school, and I refused to subject my car to the school parking lot. I parked there no more than ten times, all after school when my reckless classmates had left.

Eh I mine is a daily driver. Back home in highschool we didnt as much snow or sleet, or rain, and there wasnt that much salt on the roads to bother me. Up here in Rochester........It still dont bother me. I just wash it and make sure all of that road crap is off. The way I figure it, your only young once. Yeah I got some paint chips from the 360 mile drive I do 6 times a year, but I aint worried. I wouldnt give up driving my Maro.

I agree with you guys on not driving all the time. I only have one car though, so I have to drive alot. I work 30 miles from home, so i put a fair amount of miles on my car...

There is a point where people drive their car too little. If you never run the engine, seals will dry out and things can freeze like A/C compressors, etc. Also, I think people who restore cars to concours condition are insane. Seriously, who cares if every bolt in the car is the factory correct color? My car will never be a trailer queen...

I haven't put a 1000 miles on my car in the last 2 years combined. The paint is still perfect and with black I want it to last as long as I can, but as soon as I get that first chip in it then I'll drive it alot more. Know it's basically just for shows and maybe a trip to the track once in awhile.

Mine goes to shows, cruises and for little drives on nice days. Other than that it sits tucked away under a nice car cover in the garage. I probably average around 3000 miles a year.

I wish I had the luxury of only driving my baby on the weekends, or when it was nice outside, but my mom wont even let me put it in the garage because she wants here precious POS '99 Malibu in there instead. I wouldnt mind driving some beat-up Mazda or something to school, but I have no choice that to drive the RS. When I got it last May, it already had 123K miles on it, mostly highway miles. I live 15 miles from school, to which I drive everyday, then atleast another 15 miles home, depends on what I have to do afterwards. In the year and 4 months Ive had the car, and Im 17, Ive put over 22k miles on it. granted, about 15K are on the new engine, but still, I hate looking down and seeing 145+K on the odometer. I think every thirdgen enthusiast know exactly what we are going through here, mines just from the opposite side of the fence.

I drive mine one day during the work week and to the store, dinner, etc on the weekends!!!

I have put about 2000 miles since I got it in June but I drove it almost every day for about a month (along with 3 trips to Houston)

Right now I am averaging about 50 miles a week on it!!

It helps with my wife and I commuting to work.

All in all I think the camaro still looks good with 48k miles!!

Here are some pics:

I have owned my 85 IROC since Jan. 2000 and have put about 350 miles on it in that time. I gotta slow down or the miles are really gonna rack up! When I bought it it had 2,138 miles on it.

It could be yours for only $13,500.

Mine is my everyday driver. Back and forth to work, trips from Austin to Dallas, and I try to clean her up for shows and cruises. Mine is all original and I take great pains to keep other idiots from hurting my car. In just one year I have already had a lady hit my fender making a turn going 5MPH, had to have the whole fender replaced, painted, etc and get the wheel re-done.

BTW, Manny's 25th Anniv. Heritage Z28 is even more beautiful in person. Ive seen it myself!

The 91 Bird (LO3) gets driven everyday. The other 91 will not be on the road for many, many years and about $50,000 away.

I use mine as a daily driver. But I agree with others don't park unless they feel its safe there. I usually park pretty far from other cars if I can, and if there are those cement stopper things in spaces or high curbs I either back in or go in slowly and get out and check how much room I have to avoid scratching the ground effects. I suppose once I'm older and have the money, I'll put a brand new engine/trans in and paint it then get another car for a daily driver. But until then, I drive it every day but still only put 3000 on it a year.

My 91 is a true daily driver, I go through at least a tank of gas a week. When I got it in June it had about 63k on it, now it's at almost 69k. I hate driving it so much, but I really have no choice and I just love to drive it so much. I've tried driving my 98 S10 everyday, and it just doesn't compare. I just can't take a non-sports car on a day to day basis.
I may own a trailer queen one day, but the only reason it will be on a trailer is because it won't be streetable. As long as it's streetable, I say drive it!(moderately)

well i used to drive mine as a daily driver, and that is ever after putting $4000 in a paint job and body work. but since i have know broken a rod in the 350 due to hydrolocking the motor, i am forced to drive my S10 everyday. now if i could only get the bed fastened down. anyways. i bought the car with 92,000 miles on december 8th 1999 and now the car has 114,000 on it. and it will have no more till it has a new motor and trans. it will be a jack stand queen. hopefully not for too long. i love driving her, and its no fun talking crap from a 4cyl S10. oh well everything has its time.

i plan on putting about 5,000 miles a year when its all done. and only in the month of may-august, or so. college will take up most of my time.

I own 5 cars but the '86 is the most fun to drive so I drive it the most. No more winters and I just got heat in my garage for the winter. The RS will not be driven winter time either and will be geared more for racing and stuff. The NiteRider is for fun, crusin and show. Besides it has 199,000 original engine and trans but runs and looks great. hell I might die tomorrow so I am gonna have fun today. Can't take these cars with me.

i get compliments on my car all the time. there's nothing better than someone telling you that you have a beautiful car. but i'll never have a car that just sits there looking perfect. how easy is that? all you have to do is garage it and never drive it. thats no fun. why deprive the world of a beautiful car? i say get out there have fun with it and let everyone else benefit from your efforts. nothing lasts forever.

130,000 and counting. A truly daily-driven GTA. I rack up about 200 miles a week. Life is short, drive while you're still alive. Think of all the times you could have been out driving and enjoying yourself that you were driving that POS junker to save you car for later. Don't get me wrong, if I had an extra car to drive around, I would. But driving the dream everyday doesn't upset me any.
