What hood to go with 91 Firebird?

Ok Ive been looking to get a new hood for my car but the front end on the 91-92 firebird changed and i dont know how well it flows with certain hoods. I see a lot of other firebirds and like both ram air and cowl hoods but i dont know if there are any that flow well on a 91. Any ideas/pics?

Re: What hood to go with 91 Firebird?

I hate ram air hoods, but the rounded ram air hood fits better on the 91-92 cars than any of the other ones. I still hate it though...

The only good looking firebird hood to me is the powerbulge.

Re: What hood to go with 91 Firebird?

The RAI (93-97 style) hood looks good. RAII (98-02) looks wrong because the 2 nostrils that were in the 4th gens noses is missing. If they would fit all 4 openings into the hood, like how my Tahoe's hood was, it would look better.

I agree with Stephen. Heres my car sitting next to a RA2 car, same year.

Re: What hood to go with 91 Firebird?

Start with a RAII.
Combine the 2 scoops into 1 wide, more like the RA1.
Open up the middle of the 2 nostrils into 1 wide opening.

Suddenly you have built a Jongbloed-styled RAI! I'd love to have a hood like that. And I get the first one, as payment for providing the concept.

It would look a bit better if the scoop went further forward like the RAI does, but here is a simple Photoshop for the initial concept.

Looks like a ghetto super duty hood. Which, IMO is hideous as well.

Re: What hood to go with 91 Firebird?

I think the RAI hoods look really sharp on the '91/92's. The curves of the hoods flow well with the lines of the body. When done right, they look like they were designed for them. On the other hand, I've never liked the RAII hoods on the '91/92 'birds. They look decent on the 85-90 'birds, but they don't lend themselves to lines of the later birds.

As a Photoshopper, I'm offended.

Are we PROFFESIONAL Photoshop users? Or just normal people trying to do FAVORS to other members?

When you pay for one of our "REALLY stupid" photoshops, then you have te right to complain. While this is a public forum where people are allowed to speak out (within reason), a little common courtesy & decency goes a long way.

Unless YOU can do better, you certainly don't have the right to publicly complain, if you don't understand what is involved.

Power bulge Formula hood is where it's at, I removed the little plastic insert and put some expanded metal so leaves wouldn't get into my engine bay, It's stock, but they always look good..

The Ram Air I hood would be the only fiberglass hood that i would buy. The Ram Air II hood just takes away from the sexy shape of the car.

Did you even read what he quoted? Also that is a great photoshop, I am learning bits and pieces, and that was a very clean shop.

Besides...HE already responded. It wasn't directed at YOU, so STFU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was the only person who has the right to bitch about what I said.

Stephen for God's sake, actual READ what he said. He said all except the one photoshopped. We are just trying to tell you that no one said anything about your photoshopping abilities being bad. They are in fact good, just read, word for word "except the photoshopped one".

Apparently YOU need to read what *I* said. I never took offense at MY Photoshop. I know mine aren't perfect sometimes. NOBODY should be talked down to for at least trying. Not even the MS Paint people. I keep mine up by doing stuff for people & learn when they want something that I can't do, by searching for a way to do it.

As I've said before....Of all the members here that are doing FREE Photoshop work, at least they are trying. Photoshop is definately a use-it-or-lose-it thing.

Sounds like ya'll need a beer summit. I thought this thread was about hoods not people's opinions about photoshop. Anyways, I like all firebird hoods because I just love firebirds. (V8's only). And I like Camaro's too I guess. I have the WS6 style hood on my '84 T/A. I like it.

I might be a little biased, but I like the clean lines of the flat "base" hood.

There is one for sale local to me. He probably won't ship though. Located just outside of Tampa, FL.

I have an RA1 hood on my Trans Am that I got from a friend. I believe he purchased it from American Sports Car Design (ASCD). Could not tell you if they are still in business or producing them but may be a place to start.

On a side note, I’m interested in knowing if Stephen ever got a fresh bowl of Cheerios 🤷🏻‍♂️

Who knows. He was banned years ago.

The power bulge on my Formula I'm going to try and make the bulge a Louvered vent, sort of like the Camaro hood louvers.
