estimates for interior/body repair and paint

I would like to see what everyone would guess on how much it would be to get my camaro to near new quality.

First off, Body. 4 or 5 tiny tiny dings and 1 small but deep ding on the door, i recently got a pretty good size dent right behind my t-tops and my hood needs to be replaced.

paint, i know i might get flamed but im really thinking of getting one of the higher end macco paint jobs. Reason is because i just want a paint job to kinda tie me over tell i can afford a nice custom paint job and get EVERTHING perfect.

Interior, the interior is in pretty decent condition, mostly i just need a few cracks repaired on the plastic of the doors, a few small rips in the driver seat repaired, and the carpet re-dyed.

So im thinking 600 or so for fiberglass iroc hood, 200ish for decals/stripes, 100 for misc. lighting, and im clueless about the rest. Thanks everyone.

Re: estimates for interior/body repair and paint

i didnt take pics of the 4 tiny tiny dings or the hood damage, but the pics show the dent behind the t-tops, strange deep dent in door, cracks in plastic, and the rips in the seat, ripped center console, and worn out shifter/e-brake handle. I will not be reinstalling the door molding either and my weather stripping is perfect. Also i am keeping the exact same color. Also how much could i possibly save if i was to sand down the car and tape of the glass, wheels, etc.

Re: estimates for interior/body repair and paint

Are the 24k miles backed up by atleast a Carfax? Otherwise, I would not say its a 24k mile vehicle. Looks like more of around 60-110k to me.

As for the work, $600? Ha no. Looks like to me about a weekend of work and $120 total. Look at Mister hudson thread, your dent will have to be pulled like his rear quarter with a slide hammer. The center console lid can probably be fixed with a leather repair kit. Top door trim can be found in a yard. I got my driver side for $7.

I would fix all the dents myself and then take it for paint. I like Maaco and sorta trust them with their paint, but I know the quality of it. As for body work, hell no, never. I don't want to see the paint chipping and seeing a chunk of bondo under it cracking and then finding out the dent was just filled.

Re: estimates for interior/body repair and paint

A little FYI. Had my 89 vert done at MAACO. You get what you pay for. If you want a $300 paint job, will do. They took every dent and ding out, repaired several cracks in the front end and repaired 2 bullet holes in the right door. I rescued the car from the south side of Chicago. Took them almost a week to complete the job. I am very happy with it and would recommend this shop to anyone. Total cost? $2200.00 Just my 2 cnts.....

Re: estimates for interior/body repair and paint

its actually 27k miles, we are the 2nd owners and my mother bought the car in the early 90's and only drove the car a few miles a day (to work which was about 5miles). i cant remember all the things iv found to show its lwo miles but here i go, the front chin only has an few nicks in it ulike how most are ripped up, the passenger seat along with the rear are FLAWLESS, no stains, no rips, i'll have to add the rest when i think of it but i am for sure it is 27k miles. I think why the front seat is ripped is from getting in and out and i think my mother was kinda careless about being carefull not to rip the seat/

What is the procedure of fixing a dent yourself? how much do the signature maaco paint jobs usually run Reason why i want the signature is because it seems many less people have had no problems with the higher end jobs, includes clear coat, still fairly cheap i imagine, and i belive it has a 5yr warrenty. And the reason i want to get the body damagne and all fixed is because while most of the paint im happy with, its the severly faded front/rear bumpers i dont like, faded striping, and i would like most of the body damage out and i dont wanna pay a rediculious price for pdr.

How much do you actually think i could save instead of repainting and going with pdr and just getting a new hood, dents removed, interior fixed, and getting new stripes and getting the front/rear bumper covers painted?

The reason also why i want do this is because all these things take away my love of owning a thirdgen and atleast if i had most damage gone i dont have to be embarresed of anything. And as far as i know, highschool kids are judgeful to say the least lol.

i would run a carfax

my buddy's 89 rs has over 300k on it and the lower valance on the front does not have a scratch its all in how its driven the passenger seat and rear seat are almost always flawless

the only thing i can see to validate your miles is that engine bay looks pretty clean!

if it is an original iroc with 27k you gotta get some documentation to back that up or the miles on your odometer mean nothing at all

mine are at all zeros now

but the car itself has 151000

Re: estimates for interior/body repair and paint

haha, well theres no way it could have any more as the farthest it went ever was a few hudred miles to cali when it got stolen and it was only driven a few miles a day and then stored for over 10 years. carfaxs are like 20 bucks anyhow and we dont really trust the internet with our credit cards

Re: estimates for interior/body repair and paint

haha, thats what i mean to is that i wanna make sure the car looks good, atleast if the car is in good condition no one can talk crap about that and back it up. the carpet doesnt quite bother me to much really, its mostly the dents, door skin, front/rear bumper, hood and stripes. the rest of the paint is in pretty good condition exept for a few spots but the ok condition spots i can buff out easy. what condition was your car like?

Re: estimates for interior/body repair and paint

lol it was one color how bout that.. i worked my *** off the entire summer before 10th grade and bought the car and did all the backyard body work to it and "finish" the car the day before school started mine wasnt even in the same caliber as to what your car is...i wouldnt worry about the little dings you have now because there will be more to come from sitting in highschool parking lots or out with your friends (and ladys )no1 is going to appreciate it like you and dents and dings WILL happen ...save up your money for when you graduate and restore the car to A1 as a gift to yourself for surviving through school lol that way your not doing or paying for the same work 2 times

just buff it out nice lose the seat covers you could most likely have an upholstery guy fix the drivers seat for under $100
my dad just had a small hole in his drivers seat of his iroc fixed for $60

Re: estimates for interior/body repair and paint

thanks, i before i start driving it i NEED to by a alarm system for it incase one of those jelous punks from school try to do anything to the car, i swear if they do anything to her all hell will break loose on their azz thats all i know lol. do you know how much something like front end/rear end would be to paint though because there both faded and spider cracked and nothing is going to fix it exept painting and if i got those sections painted i would feel a WHOLE lot better.

are you talking about the sheepskin seat covers? i know, i dont know why i bought those, but i liked the old ones that were on her and so we just bought a new set, wish we wouldnt as they cost 50 bucks a piece
but that was when we had a little more money though so it wasnt such a big hit to the check book.

what actually inspired me though to start the thread was lastnight i took off the seat covers and i really like the design of the seats and they offered much more support but the driver side was ripped and thats what got me thinking about of fixing up the car instead of just using all my money are peformance parts.

So does a car necissarly HAVE to be repainted if you get dents pulled out or is their a diffrent way thats non pdr because that crap is expensive. If i could get the big dent pulled i would be much happier.

Re: estimates for interior/body repair and paint

the problem is if you get the front/rear bumpers painted it will be very very difficult to match the color due to the old paint has been in the elements since 1987

prolly not cheap either

as far as the dents go it really depends it they are able to pull them easily no it doesnt need repainted unless the paint is cracked from flexing like i said man i would fix up the interior and do a nice tune up along with all new brakes and suspension bushings (due to them being 23 years old) and drive it

Re: estimates for interior/body repair and paint

well the bumpers already dont match from being faded so even if its not exactly perfect match as long as its not cracking or is sloppy IM HAPPY!

how would i go about removing that large dent? dont you drill a hole in the center then use a puller to push it back out? what would i do about the hole? the paint cracked a bit but isnt actually falling off or anything.

i defintly still need to do brakes, suspension, and exhuast before i do anything else.

I'm sure most body shops will tell you that the filler and primer that you use in your prep may not be compatible with the materials that they use. Do your own prep at your own risk, they usually will not warranty the work. I had 22 hours of labor into the prep and they fixed everything. Ask them what you can take off the car to lower the cost. They will work with you.
