no not racing, i mean how many have you parted out, rather if the(y) were one you had when you were an kid and you crashed and swapped parts from her to your new car or that you just parted out, or if you grab one from an friend to build your dream thirdgen. I'm guilty on a few. A lot of the time, the only way I can afford to get certain parts for my cars is to buy a whole car that needs work, take what I want, part the good stuff and sell the shell to someone else or junk it. I wind up getting the parts I wanted for free, while making a few hundred dollars in the process. My wife understands how it worksout so that in the end, we make a little bill money and I still get parts for my "keepers" This way, she doesn't mind

Well, in the last 2 years I've parted out an 88 V6 camaro that I bought for $200. The body was shot and it had major elect. probs, but had real nice black interior plastics that I wanted. I sold the seats, console, dash pad, rear end and gauge cluster and kept the black plastics. Sold the body/drivetrain to junkyard for $200 and made about $400 on parts sold + got my interior free.
Car 2 was an 83' Z T-top car that was completely rust free w/no engine or tranny that I bought for $250. I wanted the gauge cluster for my '84. I sold the rear end, fenders, bumper covers, console, seatbelts, t-tops, shifter and dash pad. I got my gauge cluster for free and made about $500 in parts and then took the shell to the crusher for $75. I tried to sell it, but no one wanted it.
Car 3 was an '86 Z Hardtop w/no motor tranny that was 95% rust free. Paid $250 for it, sold all the blue interior and the rear end, making about $200 and then sold the shell to someone up north for $200.
Car 4 was not parted out, but it was an '86 Iroc with a 305tpi and brand new 700r4 that had been wrecked in the front. Paid $500 for the car with the intent of either fixing it, or swapping out the drivetrain into another project, but got offered $850 for it and Sold it.

BTW, my '91Z that I bought for $300 is a keeper that will be restored and put back on the road

 

I've owned 7.
Scrapped the first one outright.
Burned the 2nd one to the ground although I salvaged a couple of parts.
An 86 IROC became the 3rd. It eventualy went 12's and was my test mule. It's currently still alive but has been neutered.
The 4th was my daughters daily driver. That donated a few bits before it went to the boneyard.
Picked up a 5th just for parts.
The 6th is my current project. Every nut and bolt replaced or detailed to some degree. Still need an engine.
The 7th is 502/TKO/Moser 12 bolt Trans Am missle that is waiting for a roll cage and big slicks.

 

I've personally killed two. One my first car ever. It was an 86, 2.8l SC. Drove it forever, then gave it to my younger bro who also drove it forever. A friend of mine has a bunch of land and it's currently sitting on that land somewhere. The second was a 91 305 TA. Bought for 500, took a 3.27 rear that'd been swapped in, and an MSD box. Sold the rest and made a few bucks back. It was funny too, the engine hoist sprung a leak and we couldn't get it more than a few inches off the frame rails so we just saw-zawed the whole front end of the car off!

I personally don't have an emotional attachment to cars that aren't mine. I say chop 'em up if it benefits you in any way. there's hundreds of thousands of em.

 

1 lol - my 86 Firebird (2.8L). All I can say is FEELS GOOD MAN. That car was not maintained at all by it's previous owners, it's in a better place now.



Doesn't look that bad in the pic, but was rusty as hell, had a loud engine knock, stunk like a rats *** and broke down every other day.


My IROC on the other hand is a keeper. I love it.

 

I killed one, but I saved one too. My first firebird was a t-top car, had it since I was 18, and just from the abuse and PA weather, it rusted apart. So, my current one, the hardtop, I bought off some douche nozzle for 125 bucks, put all my good parts on it, kept it in the garage, and have been working on it ever since. It's a good thing I bought it too. The previous owner, some fat moronic kid had no idea what he was doing. Interior was trashed, he had a muffler installed where the cat should be and nothing after, didn't run, it was just in sad shape. Pretty much anything electrical was toast. Fortunately all that was in great shape from my old car.

I'm never gonna get rid of this car haha.

 

my 87 has more rust than good metal right now. probably will have to be "murdered". it also has about 15k worth of goodies in it and practically drives like brand new. so, theres no chance i could really sell it without a huge loss.

i want another 87 to put my stuff in, but i'm not sure where i'll be living in the next few months and i kinda need to settle down first.

 

Murder is such a harsh word. How about "euthanized" or "harvested for organ transplant"?

 

I "harvested" one of my own. Someone T-boned it in a parking lot. Hit-and-Run. The security cameras didn't get his license plate well enough.
I've harvested dozens at Pick-N-Pull.
