Is this a good buy 1986 IROC-Z
Should i buy this car? 5.7l 350 100,000 original miles, all stock except steering wheel.

The guy is asking 2800 with that dent in the bumper, and cut in the spoiler..??? I'm thinking on the lines of 1500?

Re: Is this a good buy 1986 IROC-Z
Whats a car like this worth? it needs a paint job and body work, so i think 1500$ sound about right? GM only made 49,585 of these IROC-Zs in 86.

Re: Is this a good buy 1986 IROC-Z
This from our site:
It's rumored that records also show that 50 1986 350 (5.7) IROC's were built. These cars were built primarily for testing and were the ones we saw tested by the automotive press late in 1986.

At the last minute it was decided that the 1986 350 IROC would not be available. Originally it had been planned to release them without T-Tops and air conditioning. Fortunately, they decided to wait for the 1987 model year to start production of the 350 IROC with both being optional.

Check the VIN for an F or 8...Should be a 305. I always assume it's a 305. There are so many people who make the 350 claim it's ridiculous.

The following link has a ton of useful info on IROC's and what they were equipped with. Check on 1986:

Re: Is this a good buy 1986 IROC-Z
I also thought they stamped either 5.0 or 5.7 on the back of the block on the later model engines. I know i had a 305 in my '84 Z and it had that stamp. I think it was on the drivers side in the back. Hard to see without mirror and flashlight. Anyway, it looks solid 1500-2200 depending on what engine and how it runs.
Re: Is this a good buy 1986 IROC-Z
Yeah, it's a 305, not a 350 which makes it less worthy in my opinion (as far as buying it for $2,800). But if it's a good running car with not much rust and the body/mechanics are solid enough, I'd say go for it even it you want the 305 still. If you want a 350 look at the 1987 to 1992 Camaro IROC's/Z28's. You could find one that's running solid and looking solid for about $4,000.

I would check out the shock towers a little more just to make sure its just surface rust there. Take a look at them from inside the wheel well too. Like the other on here, Id say in the 1500-2000 range

Yeah I saw those shock towere also. It looks like there may be more rust lurking somewhere. Also crawl underneath and look at the body. Alpt of people have jacked them up in the wrong spots and it can get costly to fix, if you feel like fixing.

I'm not buying this IROC, the guy pressing hard on 2800$ in cash he claims it's a 350 and i would have to drive 90miles just to look at it. I will just wait for somthing better to pop up. Thanks guys for the help.

Re: Is this a good buy 1986 IROC-Z
Good idea. I bought my 87 Iroc with the 350, t-tops, maroon paint (little bit of peel), and there was no body damage. The only really bad thing with it is that when I bought it radio, locks, trunk switch, horn, etc didnt work (just a fuse, guess the dealership thought it was a serious problem) it was listed for $3500 and I got them down to $2250. So I think the fact that one has bad paint and body damage those things even out. Since it's a 305 (more than likely) no more than $1200-$1500 max.

Re: Is this a good buy 1986 IROC-Z
Yeah, 86 came stock with the 305 as the biggest for the Irocs, i have one myself. they did make a few of 350's for them.. i believe around 50 or so for track purposes(im pretty sure). All in All 2800 isnt bad, well down here its not. id try to go little lower though.

Re: Is this a good buy 1986 IROC-Z
every 3rd gen with a v8 has a 350, do you know that
its a 305, the guy is misinformed, or was told something from whoever he bought it from ect ect.
not worth 2800 at all, its pretty rough
