$1200 Paint & Body....
The shop owner told me he would paint & do all the body work, as well as paint the moldings & trim.
One thing that concerned me was that he would not be stripping the car all the way down. Just lvling the paint. When I asked him why not he said he did not really matter its going to look good either way...
What are some key things I should ask him tomorrow before I drop the car off? Keep in mind that its going to be my daily driver, so I am not looking for show quality paint. But I do not want a job thats going to start peeling away in months.
Thanks

if the paint is not totally gone, you can do that. If you wanted him to strip the car, it would cost many thousands more.
it would be best is all the bumpers and ground effects were loose, so he can paint in between them, not just over them
what about door jambs?

1. Find out if there gonna remove the gfx and rear spoiler, and also loosen the front and rear bumpers. if not your gonna probably have paint caked and stuck in these areas. After some flexing will lead to cracks and chips. I see this happen alot with the gfx part on the doors.

Should I really concern myself with door jambs? Car will be same color(BLK). Also thanks for the heads up on the loosening of the GFX,bumpers & spoiler.
More importanly how long should I expect it to last before it starts peeling?

The car does not need to be stripped down to bare metal as long as there are no issues with the underlying surface. As long as they scuff it good I don't think you'd have to worry about it peeling for many many years (in collision work they do not strip the panels to bare metal unless there is some underlying reason to do so (defective primer, paint, crazing, etc....) As long as your car is in decent shape now I think u r ok....just my .02, but I am not a body man.

if you sticking with black theywill most likely not spray them dependng on the shape. as long as they prep the car properly your paint should last 5 years easy being a daily driver and how well you take care of it.

Im sure he knows his stuff as long as its not a maaco or other franchise. my only real advice is to make sure you dont wax the paint right away after cause if im correct (someone correct me if im wrong) paint doesnt ever fully dry cause of the layers and i have read on tgo that you should wait a couple of months before you wax it

Sounds pretty cheap for body and paint work. Materials would be half of that. If you've got no peeling or paint checking or paint chips, you don't really need to strip, and for that price def. don't expect it. Would be a good idea to at least loosen bumpers so paint can get around the edges (as said above). Later.
