A little Appearance Mod I did....

I dunno if anyone has done this before, but, I was sitting here thinking (scary I know) and came up with this idea. At first, I was going to put "WS6" or "Trans Am" but, I thought that would be kinda redundant seeing as how it does say Trans Am all over the exterior of the car, but, no where does it say Pontiac. So, I pulled the 3rd brake light lense off, and started sanding. I sanded it smooth to get the bumps off, then wetsanded, and basically its reverse decal. I layed out the letters, put two thin coats of paint on it, and then one coat of a Laquer clear coat on it. I took these pics with my video camera, so they quality isnt the best, but, you get the idea. I actually have one more little appearance mod to do, but, its raining right now. Pics of that later....

At night

During the Day

It came out looking kinda funny in these pics, but it was raining, so who knows....

So, whatcha guys think?!

I think it looks great. That would be a neat mod for my Camaro, using the Chevy Bow Tie... except for the fact that my car's third brake light is up on the hatch -- it might look out of place.

Your mod looks really good on your car; I'd like to see what your "other" modification is.

its raining like crazy out side so icant take a pic now but i got something neat like that, i took a strip of red limmo lights, and tucked it in between the bumper and the tail lights.

there is a small gap between bottom of tail lights and top of bumper, and its just tight enough too jam a stip of light in there.

just hook them too your amp, for power. looks really neat.

Yeah, I was thinking of writing a little tech article for people who want to do it. Who do I get ahold of to send in something like that for the site?

I at least want some credit!

Good idea. Looks good. I had that idea a while back after I saw a guy around town with an aluminum piece on the third brake light on a Cavalier that said "SIN" I didn't like what it said, but thought it was a good concept. I agree about the bowtie on a Camaro, but the light is waaaay up there on the hatch.

This is sorta like a small mod i did. Take off the plastic plate in front of your gauges that are held on by the torx bolts. next remove the clear plastic piece that protects the gauges. now take off the metal bezel that is around the gauges and spray paint it the same color as your car. some of you might call this a rice mod, but i have had lots of compliments on this very subtle mod that you can barely see. it really makes the normally dull gauge panel a little brighter. ill try to get a pic of it soon.

That sounds slick as hell man.

Now, my own opinion on the "rice mod" thing to anyone who calls these subtle little mods *****. Rice to me, is something that make the car look faster than it is. Big wings, exhaust, and such on a car that would only go fast if it was driven off the cliff of the grand canyon or dropped from a plane!

Something like painted guage bezels, or the like is just a nice way to put some personal touches on your ride. *shrugs* Oh well.

I appreciate the fact that almost everyone posted positively towards my little mod, I fully expected to get alot of people calling me rice and crap.. so, to you guys I give this...

LOL, DAMMIT!!! you beat me to it! I actually have one made for my camaro but haven't put it in yet. I have the spoiler mounted CHMSL so I figured I'd paint it body color to match. Mine says "Camaro" in the same text as on the new ones. It's really easy to do, just go to almost any decal shop and they can make one for you. It is exactly what you said, a decal used as masking tape. I made mine in Paint Shop Pro, saved it using zero compression and took it to the decal shop where they straightened it up a bit. I'll post some pics when I get it installed. BTW, looks good

It looks great man. I wouldn't mind getting one done that says TRANS AM. It already says Pontiac on the center piece on my car.
I have people ask me all the time if I have a firebird and I have to point to the big gold letters on the door. Anyone with the high mount hatch light could just change over to a spoiler mounted third break light if they wanted this really bad. I always thought the spoiler mounted light looked better.

Maybe its just me, but I have yet to see a third brakelight on a thirdgen Camraro work in my area, I replaced the bulb twice in a month and it keeps burning out, so I just dont worry about it anymore.

I asked about doing this before, but nobody answered. Okay, the rear center piece that says PONTIAC with the firebird logo- is there any way to illuminate that? I am good with wiring and electrical and such, but I wanna know if its possible before I tear it up. I want it to come on dim when the parking lights are on, and bright when I brake. I can make some bulb houses and then buy some replacement lights I guess. Any suggestions?

The best way to find out man, is to just experiment. Dont rely on someone else, just go out and do it! And think of how good youll feel when it works!

yeah, I say go for it, I know it can be done, just wire them in paralell with the parking/brakelights and you're set. That and making the bird/transam transparent (I think all you have to do is sand the area, but check to make sure. At any rate, I'd say take a day or two, tear the panel out and take a look at what you have to work with.

OK, I was finally able to go out and get some pics of the other thing I did. I know the quality isnt the best, but, oh well. I start my new job on Monday at a newspaper doing photography, so Ill use their camera for awhile, and then buy the new MavicaCD300 later on down the road.

Anyways, I picked these up for 5 bucks, and they look right at home on the car to me. My WS6 centercaps were stolen before I got the car, and Im not going to be running the stock wheels to much longer, so buying new centercaps for them would be pointless!

Whatcha think?

yesterday a friend showed me a mod he did on his 91 TA. he took the third break light in the hatch off and took some black eletrical tape and made a pointiac sign (the upside down V type thing) and put it back in that way.. it didn't take him long.. looks real nice.. but.. i dunno if the black tape will last to long.. and that 5.0 F.I WS.6 looks sweet.. i soo want to do that to mine now.
