18 inch Wheels/tires affect speedo accuracy?

I'm thinking about getting the 18x8 IROC wheels and some 255/45-18 tires. Does anyone know if this will affect my speedo in any way? My dad keeps telling me that it's going to mess up the speedo and I wanted to hear some of your experiences. Anyone???

yes it will effect your speedo. assuming that you have stock iroc rims and tires now, the 245/50/16's have a diameter of 26 inches. the 255/45/18's will have a diameter of 27 inches. if you wanted to keep 255 width, you would have to go with 255/40's to maintain the 26 inch diameter

Here is a neat little site to calculate what tire sizes are equal to a particular size:

I have 18's on my camaro. If it is the same height of the ground it will be fine. I have 35 series nittos 555 and those and 18's worked perfect.

I don't have an IROC, I have a stock Z28, it's got the 15x7's with 215/65-15's on it. Can I still go with the 18x8 with 255/40-18's?

What are Nitto's anyway? I don't think I've seen them before... I'm looking at the Michilen Pilot Sport's right now, with those 18x8 IROC wheels from Performance Wheel Outlet. But I also heard a horry story from someone who ordered from them, he got a wheel that wasn't even machined right, and that was after a 3 month or so wait too.

DO NOT get your rims from Performance Wheel Outlet....horrible service.
I waited for a little over 2 months and finially canceled my order with them.

I got the same exact wheel from AAA Rims and they came in about 4 or 5 days. http://www.aaarims.com

Check out http://www.discounttiredirect.com for a good deal on tires...I got the 17 inch Irocs and wrapped them with BF Goodwrench g-Force T/A KDWS 245/45ZR-17.
And let me tell you, those are some sticky tires!! Cornering is unbelievable with them, and what is weird is the treadwear is 400. They had the best ratings for that price range...and they even outperformed other that were more expensive!

I think they sell re-finished wheels though, and Performance Wheel Outlet sells brand new ones...

Hg, your tire size right now still gives you a 26" diameter tire. the 255/40-18's will give you the same diameter.

Hg..
I think they do offer refinished factory wheels, but since the factory Iroc wheels only went up to 16", there is no way that their 17" and 18" wheels are refinished. They told me when I ordered them that they were cast and chrome dipped just like they do at Performance Wheel Outlet. They said there is such a high demand for the Iroc style rims that they try to keep a large stock in them so people will not have to wait.
Trust me, they are beautiful wheels and they will be at your door in a few days..you can't beat that!

MM89Iroc: I got a reply from em today, and they said the 17 and 18's only come in chrome, so it's a no go... I *MIGHT* try Performance Wheel Outlet seeing as I shouldn't need the wheels/tires till around April or so(If I don't burn off what's left of the tires on it now )

HG- I have the nittos in the front and the same Michilens that youre looking at in the back- the Michilens handel good but if I go anything past a 1/4 throttle off the line they spin so thats s draw back. My good friend Just got some new tires on his Mustang and its some now brand I think- well any way for 18/35/255' were very cheap like around $150 and get very good traction all around with a good tread life, so Ill try to get that info as soon as I can to you guys

I have the 255/45/18.
I would say that my speedo is about 5mph off.

Mr. IROC-Z, I just *HAVE* to say that your car is *THE* most KICK A$$ 3rd gen I have *EVER* seen. I saw the pics of your car and they are what made me decide to go for the 18's instead of the stock 16 size. If I were you I'd hold on to that baby for dear life. I can understand if you just have to get rid of it for some reason but it just kicks some 4th gen @$$. I'd take your car over a 4th gen any day. You've done everything perfect. It's got some nice performance upgrades and looks KILLER at the same time. I just had to tell ya that. Your car is what I'm striving to make mine look like. I may go with that tire size anyway... Just hope I don't get any tickets cause the cops can be **** here...

Diabolical: Wasn't there a pic of your car with IROC wheels on it? If you do have IROC wheels, what size are they? Maybe it was someone else though...
