Re: RS to the big leagues
They're the same but I waited to buy a Z28 instead of rebadging a car. Leave it an RS and have a nice sleeper. "What's in that thing?" oh just a 305 TBI

Re: RS to the big leagues
Why not badge it something custom? Since there isn't much of mine left RS anymore, I went to http://www.emblempros.com/ and had him make some polished stainless 383 badges to go with the motor I have in the car now.

Re: RS to the big leagues
the badge pockets are the same . i to have an R/S . looks wise it could be mistaken for an IROC/Z . i was not trying to make it a clone but with all upgrades i have done i suppose it is (a clone i mean) . i did not want to make it appear to be what it was not . when it got fresh paint i re-badged it with grey/silver badges that say CAMARO . i am not sure but i think that those badges where only on 1988 S/C . it is a camaro , so that works for me . maybe some one has better info. on the plain camaro badges . i did have to hunt for those badges , what ever you do . good luck .
Re: RS to the big leagues
Plain Camaro badges were for the '88 Sport Coupes, Tom, so you are correct.
To the OP, there's no shame in driving an RS. Personally I'd rather drive a later RS than an '82-'87 regular Z28. 99% of people out there have no idea what the difference in trims means, or that RS is the base model anyway so I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: RS to the big leagues
Just look at it this way, this is the way I do:
If your car is clearly deserving of Z28 badges and it has RS badges, the people "in the know" that the RS is just a base model will KNOW you put some serious work into it. They'll know you're a bad **** 'round them parts.
The people that dont know the RS is a base model will just think it's a Z28 anyway.
I'd get some nice RS emblems and call it a day. Personally I'd rather have a car people can tell I built than one people think I just bought the way it is. You've put in the work - let people know.

Leave it with RS badges and make it as fast as you can. It would be the best sleeper in my oppinion because most the time I see the later RS's and think "Oh I could smoke that because it's either a V6 or a 305".
That's the reason why I want to find either a earlier Camaro with a 350 swap or a later RS with a 350 swap because once it's finished being modded people won't expect it to be as fast as it is...

Re: RS to the big leagues
I think rebadging the car as IROC or Z28 is a misstake IMO.
People will expect a TPI engine in there, even though none of the early Z28's had TPI.
Either use "plain" "Camaro" badges, have some custom badges made (would 350TBI fit?) or just sticking with RS badges works best.

i too totally agree. most people don't know the difference. only people that ask me is my car an iroc is another third gen owner. i don't have any iroc badges on it. i think my car is now more than just an iroc. do to the car what you want it to look like.
I wouldn't think stock restored third gen's will bring in bigger money in the future anyways.

puma.. very nice camaro haha. and yea i guess there are just so many RS's around my area but i'll let the car speak for itself when i fire it up. i was thinking of custom emblems aswell maybe SS i love that 383 emblem thats bad as hell.
i always get the IROC comment anyone who grew up in that era remembers them as the IROCs. i honestly think i'll have to rebadge it to something custom just because i know so many people with RS that sport the V6 so hard and i dont want to be classified with them to the imports.
buttttttt maybe a cowl hood i would rock these

Re: RS to the big leagues
Or fit a set of turbos and don't worry about having a V6.
I've seen the one or other V6 in these forums that would make my V8 look really slow

Re: RS to the big leagues
Don't do it. The Motor is not the only thing that makes the Irocs stand out from the RS. Car is still an RS. If you want to change the badges do something custom.
If I drove an RS I would have no problem sporting the badges. People who know motors will hear the difference, no reason flaunt new badges.

Re: RS to the big leagues
if i went for a (replica) then the rear drum would be swapped to disc which i already want to do and a beefier suspension i would do it as right as i could. but i'll probably do custom such as 5.7 or 350 i didn't know of a place that did the custom emblems until now
