POLL: Blackouts or No Blackouts? Pics Inside!

I'm trying to determine if I should have these on or not. Here are some pics I snapped with them on and off. Let me know what you think! I had them on when I first had my IROC about a decade ago and LOVED them. I figured before actually mounting them, I'd get some other opinions. Ultimately, I'm gonna do what I want, but I am not sure what I want is just yet.

I agree, looks a lot better with the blackouts. I have them on my camaro and think they're a great addition.

I like the blackouts on that car, but personally I prefer the grid pattern over the smooth blandness of the covers. Have you considered tint, followed by a clear coat to keep the shine?

I had that thought, but coveres would be easier to deal with in case he got a ticket and had to "make it right" to get the citation dismissed.

how are HPD about that kind of thing? another option would be to get a whole new set of taillights to use as a legal set in case you needed them. Cheap RS lights would get you out of a ticket problem

As weird as it may sound, with your paint scheme the original tail lights almost look ugly. The black looks really good!

5 years ago I would say yes, but now I think they date the car.

I'd polish the stockers up really well and rock those....

If you want a change you could paint the amber part red to have a set all red or lightly tint them(professionally)

blackouts are nice. Or you can do the red taillight mod...I think that could work well on that car too.

Re: POLL: Blackouts or No Blackouts? Pics Inside!

I had a set of those GTS covers for about three weeks when I was 15 back in 1999...then I realized they were pretty tacky and got rid of them.

I'm not a fan of blacked out lights on any car though, including black cars like my DD (and for the record the worst is when someone half-asses VHT on badly delaminated tails to begin with, so I wouldn't go that route either).

I vote no.

Re: POLL: Blackouts or No Blackouts? Pics Inside!

In my honest opinion, our cars are beautiful the way they came from the factory.. the lines are timeless, if we lower them a little, the stance is awesome.. If you repaint your IROC and leave off the decals, wow they look awesome. The anniversary stripes on the 92 are gorgeous! But I think, the MOST distinctive parts of our cars are the taillights and the headlights.

There are few things the factory gets right.. the lights on our 3rds is one of them.. Stone

.

Distinctive like these half a decade before the Camaros developed an identical grid pattern? Don't get me wrong I do think they fit these cars perfectly but I don't believe for on moment the factory did much to get it right

And as for the headlights being distintive.... well I think this 1981 deLorean kinda rules out gms "originality"... for the record I think deLoreans are oh so ugly and there's not a car out there I love like a third gen camaro. Back to topic tho I like the idea of getting a spare set of tailights, tinting one set really dark and then taking them to a body shop to be clear coated, but that's what I've done lol and this isn't my car

That is so true. I hate when I see some bad looking tails with the dullest looking VHT you could possibly have.

As others have already said, try and paint the amber part of your tails red. It's the orange back there that's making everything clash and not look so good.

Looks good on your car! I don't like blacked out very much but it works. But I also agree with getting rid of the orange, all red and black would look sexy

Usually blackouts just make it look like someone stole your tail lights. But on your car in particular, I think they look better than the stock lights.

Re: POLL: Blackouts or No Blackouts? Pics Inside!

in this case, with YOUR car, black outs are the way to go. i dont think the stock look is bad looking. but the smoooooothhhh black outs look a little better. yeah sometimes the grid texture looks good. but like i said, smooth looks good with yours. i love how stealthy they look. thats why 3 of my 3rd gens have them lol. obviously your paint job/stripes arent factory, so the factory lights gotta go.

Throw some black wheels on the car to help the contrast
