after tinting - now lots of tiny bubbles - what causes this?
yesterday, i had my back glass tinted, but the electricity went out, so he wasn't able to smooth out a few wrinkles. Well, this morning I came out and checked and it looks like several miniscule bubbles have formed. Before confronting him, I would like to make sure this isn't due to the power going out so his heat gun didn't work. Could this be due to him not using the heat gun if they weren't there yesterday, but are there now? Or just a poor job done?

Wait it out another 2-5 days, depending on temperature. When you tint your windows there are bubles that will be visable that you cant remove completely but will come out the first couple days. However if it doesnt come out withing that time period then i would go back.

it was my power that went out. he already came back and took off the tint. now i'm back to finding someone who can do something with this dang defroster issue.
Re: after tinting - now lots of tiny bubbles - what causes this?
just unplug it. you can tint over a defroster you just cant use the defroster or it will melt the tint. You can unplug it on the hydrolic lifts on each side of your hatch.

if he is a good tinter he should be able to tint over the defroster and make it look good. as long as you dont use the defroster it will be ok.

the tint is gone now. Here is a pic of what I meant. See how the orange lines and bar aren't consistent orange, but rather have splotchy black in them?

Is there glue still stuck on the defoster?
Re: after tinting - now lots of tiny bubbles - what causes this?
take a very fine razor (be careful not to scratch the glass) and remove the defroster. But it should still be very simple to tint it even like that.

mine did that too on both of the cars i had tinted. the bubbles went away in less than a week. BUT i didnt know i wasnt suppose to use my defrost with tint,,because i did, and STILL do......nothing happend lol. so i dont know if i have some type of "super" tint, or you guys have junk *** tint, but neither of my cars have ever melted the tint. and one of them was tinted about 4 years ago, and the other one was tinted 1 year ago.
Re: after tinting - now lots of tiny bubbles - what causes this?
I didnt mean "melt" but sometimes depending on the tint and how much you use the defroster it does cause bubbles. So people say not to use it as a safety measure. My car is tinted and i still use it but i live in so cal where i dont have to use it very often.

When he removed the tint, it peeled off some of the defroster with it, you should have waited till the tint dried completely to see if their were bubbles still. Its harder to get most of the bubbles out with a defroster on the hatch. You will prolly have to try & scrap the rest off, cause tinting over it is gonna look bad. Once you tint on the defroster it will come off if you remove it.

Using your defroster wont melt the tint,it may cause peeling around the defroster causing bubles. It also depends on the quality of tint material that they use.

karls - the 15-20 year old tint that was removed was the problem - it took some of the defrosting lines (or at least the silver backing?) off with it. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to get it to look more uniform.

maybe you could just replace the glass and start over with one that has fresh defrost grids, or one without them at all.

Take a razor and scrape over the defrost lines. Im sure thats why the orange lines aren't consistent, the brighter orange areas dont have any defrost material on them and the darker areas still have the defrost material there. Just use a razor at an angle and scrape a small area and you'll see what im talking about.
That's what i did on my car anyway and my lines are now consistent on the whole window. My defrost no longer works cause the material is scraped off but o well.
