Plasti-Dip ?

I think the wheels would look great black , Thinking about it . Maybe a winter project , i like projects .
It might be just the rite touch on the heritage.
And if i don't like it , peel it off .

Re: Plasti-Dip ?

I like black wheels, I do, but your car is so sweet as is I would leave it alone. I mean yes Plasti Dips will peel off, but also if you like it alot it will not last like normal paint. I mean you could try it and see if you like it.

Re: Plasti-Dip ?

Being another heritage vert owner and also a guy that has plasti-dipped his wheels... Don't do it. That car your dad gave you is perfect in every way and "dipping" the wheels black will not pull the look together. That car you have is a museum piece and deserves to be treated like it. Ask yourself would dad have painted the wheels black... whether is peeled off or not? Not likely.

Nicley put BADNBLK , It will be hard for me to not make changes .

Heres some pics of my 2008 HHR SS 5spd that i just traded for an automatic 2010 HHR SS .

Cut the headlights apart , To do paint work , Cut the hood . Added a custom armrest , Which was'nt avail, on a 5 spd. And it did 150 + MPH , But i was only able to find enuff road to get her to 144 MPH . I'll look for a longer strech 2nd time around.

Re: Plasti-Dip ?

Plasti Dip will last along time if done with enough coats. I have it on my Chevy emblem on my truck and a pair of winter wheels for over a year with out a single problem...

The paint is not perfect , I would like to have it painted , Would that hurt the car .

There were quite a few touch ups done with a darker , Non matching red .

10 feet away it's a 13 , 2 feet away , It's a 9

Because it peels off easy so if he doesn't like it he can take it off? I say do whatever you want to your wheels, especially considering plasti-dip is so easy to get off, it's your car, not anyone else's.

No, I mean is there a benefit to putting it on your wheels? Or is it just an easy way to find out if you like black wheels?

Re: Plasti-Dip ?

Seems like it would protect the wheels for those driving in winter.
I would do some tapeing , And use black and red plastidip .
I'd like to change the wheels abit , and it's reversable so no harm done .

I will put new rims on it one day . And store the originals.
Plasti-dip is soon gonna be available in like 6 colors in spray cans , If it's not already .

Re: Plasti-Dip ?

91-92 16 inch wheels look awful in black. Just awful. Theyre not well suited for it. Single-line IROCs and even the factory 15's look okay enough in black, but the double line IROCs dont look quite as good, and the 91-92 wheels just look terrible that way.

The crosslace wheels also look great in black. The 20 slots look okay in black. The 15 crosslaces look terrible in black. Just depends on the wheel, but I wanted to demonstrate I dont think black always looks bad, but on the 91-92 wheels it always does.

Anyway, try it if you like, just be sure when you evaluate how it looks that you're not blinded by the effort you put into it like most are.

If you do anything to those wheels, they respond very nicely to a meticulous polish, but its a lot of work. Between 3-10 hours per wheel depending on your tools and skill level with it.

Mine are clear coated , Are you saying chem strip original finish , Then polish the bare aluminum ?

I could see that taking those kind of hours , But they would look sweet .

If you do this... go buy a set of used wheels and keep your original wheels... ORIGINAL! Very rare car you have, just make sure what ever you do you can change it back

I agree with this too. Your car needs to stay stock. If you have the urge to start cobbling it up, just get a different car and keep that one as is.

Agreed , I need to leave it the f- alone ,

Sat. i changed the oil , and oil filter , Old oil looked brown , Not black.
Changed the air filter , Probally did'nt need it but now i know.

And i replaced the hood struts so it's a real hood now and when you open the hood , It rises and stays up whithout a broom handle . LOL .

Next the trunk struts which O'riellys did not have, But i've been using a bat to keep up the trunk . And i removed that rediculous spare tire which had to have the car built around it , Because there was a time in the 20 min i tried to remove ,where i swore it would never come out of that fender . it had to weight 65 lbs So i'm up on HP , LOL .

No it is a small rim and tire , Larger than todays mini dounuts. It has a canister of air with it , Which is probally useless. But the heaviest little wheel ever .
