New Camaro Taillight Option?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Those of you who have been following my quest for custom side markers at https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/grou...er-lights.html noticed the pictures of the Camaro tail lights I used for sample colors.

One individual was interested in the pricing for the custom taillights. You can get more info at http://klearz.com/chevy.html.

Jason sent me the following message.
-----------------------------------
Hello Bill,

Thanks for the email. The taillights are still for sale on the website along with pricing at this url:

http://klearz.com/chevy.html

I am seriously consider redoing the project from the ground up. I would like to smooth out the entire surface of the taillights so there are no more grids or texture on the outside. It would just be smooth as glass all the way across and around the corner. I would leave the grid and diffuser pattern on the inside so it would still have the "look" but just be a nice subtle custom upgrade to the tails. Also on this remake, I would do the tails as only two pieces. The 3 flat sections would be cast as a single unit, and then the corner lens would be cast as a single unit. This would reduce the color options but would make assembly and final fit and finish much nicer.

I would need to know there was lots of serious interest in this before I could get it off the ground as it will take a good amount of work and financial investment.

Well back to work. Just let me know your thoughts and maybe the thoughts of the Camaro community in general. I've come along way in terms of production ability and overall quality of finished products since I first started doing the Camaro tails.

Thanks,

Jason

the klearz taillights was around several years ago and a few of us bought them in assembly form. there are a few pics floating around the forum. I myself had did a write up on a set of clear ones I had on my car. I sold them later on.

they were expensive then and new from the company with a few fitment and quality issues. overall I was happy with how mine turned out. maybe now these issues have been addressed.

I thought mine were terrible, until I realized that all the weird warps and bends in the lenses were in my factory tail lights too. I was kind of surprised to see how uneven the factory lights were, just had never noticed....

I like them, but Im not completely happy with them. Our tail lights are just too large and relatively complicated for us to get an affordable option to replace them. I think they did the best they could, but for our cars it's just a lot to ask. Still I think they look really nice and I occasionally get comments on them, always positive. I like that they look stock unless you pay attention. Figured it would keep the cops from bothering me about them.

Also I think a clear, smooth lens would look great, but I think the 82-84 tail lights are close enough to get that sleek look. Plus I already invested time and money into my Klearz years ago.

Also, Im tickled to see my car is the example picture they used....

$600 is ridiculous for colored taillights, but I guess that's because they got a hold of some OE taillight molds and they make them fresh.

BTW, happy 5,000th post InfernalVortex.

5,000... wow... scary.

Anyway, Im pretty sure they have the lights they use for hte master mold. I think they said the mold goes bad after around 50 uses, and they probably have to remake the mold every time tehy get enough in. Through emails it just sounded like it was a logistical nightmare to get these done. But it's only $240 for the lenses, which is what i paid. $600 is for them to assemble and install them into housings for you. Like I said, our lights are a pain in the *** from this regard and it is fairly labor intensive. And thats why even lenses by themselves are so pricy. They have to make 4 different lenses for each light, that's 8 lenses total. It's kind of ridiculous and it's time consuming for them too, Im sure.

Stock tails are ok too me, I really like the ones on here I saw the other day, where the guy used some testors model paint too make them all red.

Clear tails look dated, already, too me, and a bit *****.

Clear would be real cool on a white car, IMO.

Johnny,

Jason at klearz writes that his skills and techniques have improved over the years and that he will be providing a better product. However, I am not sure if the specific issues you are bringing to light have been addressed.

Thanks!
Bill

Re: New Camaro Taillight Option?

I'm one of the few people who want the clear tailights but $240 for the lenses (that are grid style so don't match my factory 84 SC tail lights) is just too steep. I'd love to see them redone, but I fear the price would stay the same or go higher. I can't make myself grit my teeth and buy them
