October COTM **Nominations**
***** OCTOBER Nominations*****
This thread is designed as a nomination board to narrow down to the top ten thirdgens found on this board. This is not a picture thread to post pictures of your own vehicle, and you cannot nominate your own vehicle. To nominate a member you must provide a user name and POST ONE GOOD PHOTO of the vehicle (for others to possibly 2nd, 3rd, 4th the nomination).
***NEW***
- This month will be for our RACERS!!!! We need to pick our favorite purpose built racers on the board. Camaros, or Firebirds are ok. I know almost all of us have raced, in some form or another, but I want the cars that built their cars for the best laps times, and 1/4 miles passes. So we need to pick our best looking, most well thought out purpose built racers. Post some on track pics when you can. ALL RIGHT TRACK JUNKIES.... HERE IS YOUR CHANCE!!!
** I know there is gonna be a lot of grey area on "RACERS" so, if your nomination disappears its because I felt it didn't fit the purpose built race thirdgen **
Once a vehicle has been nominated, there is no need to post additional pics, but please post with members screen name as a second, third etc nomination.
One nomination per member. So please do not list of your top 20 favorite cars... think about this, it will be an honor, pick one. If multiple nominations are made by a single member, I will only count the first posted member when creating a tally.
*** The 10 or less cars with the most nominations will be complied into a new thread around Sept 15th, at which time poll format will be used to nominate the August car of the month. A car must receive more than one nomination be included in the voting process ***
Please see last months nomination thread for ideas on how this works....

I think he may have a new setup now. But I believe it's still turbo'ed. Nasty looking car, and he has provided countless members on here with great information on there builds.

I'd like to nominate Big_Mods and his outstanding Camaro. Alot of work went into this car, and one picture doesn't do it justice

I might be missing something or perhaps our COTM editor can clarify.
What defines a "purpose built" race car? It seems to me that it doesn't involve anything that's driven on the street.
I really like Orr89RocZ, 1986Z28OWNER, mw66nova and the rest but aren't they street cars that race (or vice-versa but still streetable)?
I figure it's too late to do anything about it now but I wanted my fellow forum members to know why I selected AlkyIROC's Camaro. It's a race car only.

That's where it will be to the judges discretion. I built my car to run as fast as it could in the 1/4 mile with my combo. Yes it may have a standard transmission(only because I hate automatics with a burning passion) but the 10pt cage, kirkeys, 5 pt harness', Spool, 28x11.50 slicks w/ skinnies up front, 90/10's w/ trick springs, no front sway bar, Rear anti-roll bar, manual steering and manual brakes, To most people this isnt a street car anymore. but it has a license plate and I drive and race the hell out of it on the streets. I will gladly bow out, but I am pretty sure it will be tough finding enough high quality dedicated race cars on this board. I know for one, mw66nova street drives his car and probably put more passes on it at the drag strip then some bracket racers do. just my opinion,

One thing I want to make clear.
I think your car is one of the finest examples of a drag racing Camaro that this forum has seen. There's no doubt in my mind that it's built for the track first and not the street. I can't think of many street cars that have a dedicated nitrous fuel tank.
Same with Matt's car. Nice drag racer. 10's?! Amazing. And streetable. Also amazing.
I was just pointing out the editor's note (re-posted at the top) that says the word "dedicated". That's single of purpose in my mind.
This isn't to take away from the quality of any of these builds. That's obvious to anyone that takes a look.
Good luck to everyone.
By the way '86, I'm sorry I missed you on my trip to Edmonton. I did swing by your shop and had a peek at your car through the fence though(no, I'm not a creepy guy). If I had driven my car west instead of my van, I would have knocked on the door and asked for a photo opp.
Nice wheels.

I honestly didn't want cars like... Mine. I tracked my car on the strip, auto cross, and road course this year, but its not "race car" or was it built to be so. Like I said most of us have done it, but I want the track junkies , I want to see the cars that were built with a purpose...
Hope that helps clarify it a little. I knew there would be some grey areas, but so far I have only removed one nomination from the thread.

Re: October COTM **Nominations**
Look at Hot Rod Drag Week. Those machines, by the slimmest of definitions are streetable. It's quite a stretch when you have to make a cardboard baffle to funnel air through the engine bay to keep the thing cool on the highway runs. Hang on, it's raining, I have to pull over and install my windshield wipers! It has made having a trailer hitch on your hotrod a cool thing though. Especially when it doubles as a parachute mount.
Again, don't get me wrong. Those machines are amazing. 6 second and somewhat streetable. You gotta like it. But I'm not taking one cross-country any time soon.
That's for the loan of the thread Black.

This thread is tough, I seriously hope I do not hurt any feelings but the 1st post says best looking, most well thought out purpose built racers - To me that means it does not get to see street time due to it's purpose built nature. So Orr and Xpandbl3 etc are out... Sorry guys but you have stickers in the wrong places lol
For an awesome Third Gen that kicks @$$? How about Mark Maderash's 1988 ESP Trans Am? It's won the SCCA nationals in the ESP class, in 1999, 2001, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, AND 2012. Keep in mind this is also against a lot newer cars like the Mustang 5.0 and AWD Subaru (boosted on E85 to boot!) - who can argue against that??
I vote user MKM - 1988 Trans Am ESP Car.

I think people seem to be missing the point. You can have a purpose built race car and drive it on the street. I think most guys in the Racing section of the boards built there cars for racing as a number one priority. But just because the car is a race car does not mean it can not be driven on the street?
Also, this months car of the month is dedicated to the Racers of the board. I don't see any better candidates than xpndbl3, orr89rocz, and mw66nova for this month as those guys are the ones who frequent the Racing boards more than anyone else. I can tell you my car would not be where it is as a Drag car/street car if it was not for these guys help.
Anyway, I say we focus more on the success of these guys cars then getting rid of anyone from the voting.

Re: October COTM **Nominations**
The line between what was once streetable and what wasn't is steadily moving.
Do you have any idea what it took to build a 12 second street car back in my day?
The local brute, in the late 70's, early 80's had a 500 cid Nova that was maybe low 12's fast and got 7 mpg. That same car today could probably do 8's and cruise near 20 mpg.
My own Chevelle with a 400 sbc was probably a high 13 second slug but was pretty quick in the rolling start street racing scene.
A 10 second Camaro that's tame enough to drive to and from the track? Forget about it. It didn't happen back then. Unless you had access to the latest and greatest technology which was hard to come by. (No internet!)
I say well done to all of you that have managed to move that line a little more. Unfortunately for me, it makes what I've managed to accomplish, a 12 second cross country cruiser, just another also ran. 10 years ago it was something. Today, not so much.
Again, good luck to all.

Which cars are the problem? I submitted 1MeanZ and I know he races that car, it looks like a stock street car with different wheels.

This is shaping up to be a really tough month! Love Ray's car, it's a work of art. He was out at Norwalk last weekend, went 4.58@175 if I remember correctly.
