I've always like the body of third gens just not the lighting, I got my car as a project to apply what I was learning in school. Well I stumbled onto this site as ramair was winning COTM and fell in love with his headlights. After that swap it emphasized the out dated front turn markers so I had to do something....yes these are autzone specials which is why one of the diodes crapped out on me not even a year later. I'm gonna buy new housings and do this again with maybe some l.e.d strips from DDM maybe but for now these get crazy attention and with my angel eyes they are about as bright as the stock lights. They only work because I don't have indicators on the dash let me know what you guys think

If you like the lights that's all that counts and it seems to go well with the halos. Here's what I'm running. Stock style replacements from 1AAuto and are perfect for stock style headlights.

The lights had gotten pretty hazy and I wanted to replace em anyway, figured if I didn't Like em at least it was on a crap set, then i thought it looked cool. And I knew somebody was bound to get there panties in a bunch over my giant logo I'm also using this car to get my sons(6&9) more interested in building there own stuff instead of buying someone else's ideas. Between the logo and the lighting they can't stay away from it even if its just to clean the wheels (milkin that as long as I can) or twisting bolts.

And Ron, thanks for the heads up, those have a "freshened up" look about them and still use the defuser. I'm assuming they are made of a better material than these brittle relics I'm using now? How much were they?

I bought the same parking lights from 1Aauto.....the fitment is bang on and the new parking light housings really freshens up the front end. Swweeettttt, now I have some quality products to use for the final product. I love anything l.e.d I just don't see the point of spending a lot of money on the prototype. When I have the resistance values figured out so the system will work properly with the indicators wired, I'll definitely add them to this post.
And this is not the 1st time I've heard a fellow third gen driver mention they'd like them better in amber, which would also be cheaper. Maybe translucent amber paint. Maybe I could sell a few sets to get money for more parts and another thing, does anybody have an idea to make the sequential..... that might be cool. I don't think I have enough resistance to use those tail light moduels

I just installed these, too; they return "new" look to faded lenses.

Might as well change lamps, when installing them, as it's a pain to get a 10mm bone wrench over those two mounting bolts.

Thanx Danny boy, and I don't have much trould getting to those bolts, removing my headlights is pretty easy, and that way I can get to the with a 1/4in ratchet, but l.e.d's USUALLY last quite a long time....if they didn't come from Autozone apparently smh...

90 seems quite high . Those are same lights ad everywhere else. Depo.. usually about 70 with side markets also

70 with side markers sounds good! But I've never come across them that cheap, feel free to post a link, when I was searching before I made these, I found the crystals for 200.00! That's when I decided to build something lol

Do those function as driving/signal still?You may need to use a relay if not.

I did my side markers w/22 LEDs, but needed a relay for them to work as both driver/sig.Just recently found a 48 LED panel for my front markers.

Yes they do actually. They draw too many amps for the side marker to Stay illuminated while driving, which I like. When they go off with the blinker then the side illuminates enough for the flasher to work properly. But I will try a relay because I'd like to wire in some indicators for the dash. Did you use a relay per side, or did you use 2. And I've also thought of using maybe 3 l.e.D's for the side markers but figured I'd cross one bridge at a time lol. Do you have pictures of your side marker?

I got cha. That should solve my indicator problems nicely thanks man, I feel like homer Simpson not thinkin of that already. And I'm for sure stealin those side markers. But maybe red....I also read you used an L.E.D flasher to increase flash speed. Is it possible to put an ohm meter on the 195 bulb thru the socket, then measure the resistance of the bread board, then subtract it from the 195 value = which resistor value to use inline on (+) side?

Should work, should be able to measure the resistance somehow.I dont know the formula though.So i just went with a resistor to cut the voltage to 6v.Thats so you can tell the side marker is blinking when the driving lights are on.

I bought the flasher cause i thought that would allow me to get the side makers to blink w/out the relay.Didnt work out that way, but i may end up needing it now when i do the front indicators.

Thats pretty sick man. What did you use for the leds in them? Any issue with the law as there are white insted of the amber? up here they like to look for stupid **** like that to bust you over

After I replace my opti I'm gonna wire up these lil 1.8v leds from RadioShack for my dash. 84 1LE it would be sweet if you could do a voltage drop across your front markers. I don't have the factory plug n bulb or know anybody with a ³rd gen within 1200 miles.

I used the fog lights from autozone ..gotta love rewards points lolz. I've only driven it as a DD in Ohio, they were pretty cool about it. One cop even pulled up next to me n gave me a thumbs up....to be honest it scared me at first. And I see more than one person here in Miami fl with green freak in headlights so I'm bound to get pulled over lol hopefully I'll be cool about it :-)

I probably will, unless i can make the fr driving lights work off the same relay as the side markers.Most likely though i will have to use a relay each, plus the resistor to drop the voltage.

I've seen those, and they do look great!. But there was a reason you changed em in the first place, and didnt go with stock replacements....but I should change the title of this thread, can I do that? When I made it I was lookin at pics of my car before I changed em...aaannd I hated em.

Autozone...sells them as fog lights...the pic i posted of the back of the light housing was to show the 2 AZ led housings i put inside but I wouldn't recommend using these because as I mentioned a couple times, one of the diodes crapped out on me 1 year after installing them, you can see on the right side. Im gonna get a couple sets from ddm and see if they last longer. Gotta replace my opti first. Thought I was gonna get that done this weekend but the wife's lower intake gaskets blew so thats my excitement for the weekend....Fuqn grand am POS

Well done! Where did u get the l.e.D's? Are they in the housing already or is that what you're putting in? Ive been tossing around the idea of making l.e.d boards that look similar to that, to replace the bulbs in the tail lights. Should be pretty straightforward.

My fault, I should have asked, did u buy single diodes, or did u buy them on a board already, the fit looks bang on, so I would think you did it yourself, how did you run power, do you have pics of the back of the housing? Showing the circuitry

Maybe it’s just me but I like it when one piece compliments the other. They should look like they blend in with the rest of the car. If you're running Halo head lights the LED parking lights/turn signal lights match the look of the front of his car nicely. But in my IMO just throwing LED parking lights on with stock headlights looks out of place. That goes for the Crystal style parking lights as well. The stock headlights complement the stock style parking lights. Halos = LED , Stock = stock

Ron, I get your point. I think it might have looked funny if he did 2 rows of LEDs like mine. But since it completely fills the housing I think it makes it more subtle. And now it does match the side markers as well.

That was the whole point, also LEDs use less current/last longer.Plus my headlights are not stock or taillights.My take...stock appearance, updated tech.

I built my car slowly one piece at a time like most of you. One part slowly leading to the next and since its my first build ever I spent allot of time contemplating on what I wanted the end result to be. I believe the style/theme of my car is off the path usually taken. So if you like the LEDs then I say use them. Most likely the LED lights there will lead to Halo's and so on. Build your car as you want it after all you're the one driving it.

I think the turn signal LEDs are an improvement. but I never liked the round "halo" lights on a 3rd gen. I don't know if them being round mismatches the body style or is just too much of a departure from the traditional 4 rectangles that makes the 3rd Gen visual statement.

I think it wouldn't too bad if instead of them being round, they were rectangles. It would mimic the original headlights better that way I think. I agree though, they look a bit odd. I do like the "new/up to date" look they give the car.
