Charcoal relocation

i'm about to finish up with the 4th gen washer fluid bottle install in my 87 T/A, and next i'll be putting in the 4th gen overflow bottle, on top of where that would go is the charcoal canister. Anyone have any ideas on where to hide that? I was thinking in the fender, but i'm wondering if theres enough room for it. any pictures or thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Re: Charcoal relocation

I know it would be a drastic change but I think if you swap to a 4th gen tank the charcoal canister is built into the tank. It might need to be a later LS tank though.

yeah, i dont think i'm quite willing to take it to that level. I just paid to have the fill neck repaired on this tank a couple years ago and i dont feel like pulling the tank again lol.

Wouldn't the car stink like gas if it is just vented to the atmosphere?

I can only speak from my own experience. Based on my experience the answer is Absolutely Not.

Re: Charcoal relocation

I thought of getting rid of it too, a lot of people say their cars started stinking like gas, and with an attached garage and a wife who has astounding olfactory glands, i'd never hear the end of it lol

Re: Charcoal relocation

Too funny my wife is the same way. One little spritz of paint in the garage and I'm hearing it. Then they'll insist their farts don't stink.

i'm not going to come outright and say that "that's a myth." i will only speak to my own experience. i have been running no emissions, no EGR, no charcoal canister since i got my car on the road in 2011. i have not experienced anything like a gas smell as a result. i dont notice that its gone - except its cleaner under the hood and there is room for my SLP CAI box.

What did you do with the vent line coming from the fuel tank?

Re: Charcoal relocation

After getting the hole put in for the 4th gen overflow tank, i began looking for places to put the charcoal canister. I found one spot that looked promising, if i modified another fender support brace (if i cut it and put a piece of metal out of the way to support it) i could fit it inside the fender there, but i didnt have it in my heart to cut any more metal.
eventually i found out that if i took the raised edges of the battery tray on the bottle and cut them off (since my battery isnt on that side anyway), i could cram the evap canister as far under the edge of the inside of the engine bay so its halfway hidden.

I took some pictures but they wont load on here for some reason...

Re: Charcoal relocation

i saw that thread, the 4th gen overflow bottle basically fills that whole area, i'd have modified the 2nd brace in the fender but i couldnt bring myself to cut and weld more stuff on the car today
