Re: SLP cold air charcoal relocation

Inside the passenger side front fender ground effect, it wraps under the front right corner of the car. You can mount it in there, just extend the wires and vac lines.

I was going to move my canister too. Does it have to be in the original location as well as present and functional to pass CA smog?

Still be useful to know if the canister can be moved without changing functionality and still pass CA smog.

Re: SLP cold air charcoal relocation

If the canister is intact and functioning, there shouldn't be any issues. They don't care about location, just as long as it passes the test.

Also; pics of the intake? For as many of these things as there are out there, no one has ever bothered to take a picture of it.

As long as it is mounted in the upright position it will still function OK. This is due to a liquid trap built into the lower area. I know this is true for the canisters with the solid bottoms.

Not sure how the ones with the filter on the bottom are built.

As far as it passing CA smog if relocated, that needs a CA referee to tell the tale.

Re: SLP cold air charcoal relocation

Canister gets put between the power steering hard lines and the battery on the driverside. Sometimes the hard line needs loosened and moved out of the way then reinstalled to hold/wedge the canister inplace against the battery. (cheesy but that's how it was done)
When new, the kit comes with wire and hose to extend the vac line and electrical to that spot.

Re: SLP cold air charcoal relocation

Just gets moved over to engine compartment side above the PS lines.
You may have to remove the harness from the clips for some slack.

Re: SLP cold air charcoal relocation

You can do that, I never did unless the owner wanted it that way.
I used Zip ties to help hold it in place so I wouldn't have to drill holes.

Cannister will fit under p.side battery tray upright, it will sit in there fine, you just have to move the metal tabs a little.

Re: SLP cold air charcoal relocation

There are many places the canister can be mounted but for a SLP "correct" install, it get put on the driver side.
I've never had to pass a visual or have any type of EPA testing.
I installed mine here to cleanup the engine compartment.

I have the slp cai on my 89 formula 350. I relocated the canister to the drivers side. I also used zip ties to hold it in place. If you want ill take some pics over the weekend and post them for you.

Why would yours melt there. Because of headers or something. Considering the fuel lines are right there too im surprised you wouldnt have an issue with that then.
