So I bought a 1992 camaro for my senior project. My senior project is basically about the process of painting my car and fixing any body issues on the way. But I have a dilemma... I don't know what color to paint it. I know Black would look amazing but its so unoriginal and it seems every other car is painted either black or red. I want to paint it a awesome color that would look good I just don't know what to do. Here's some pics of the car know how it sits I will post some more pics after i put the cowl on tonight.

Pink, purple, green, orange, yellow, white, blue, ........


Just pick what color YOU like. Black would certianly show your paint and bodywork skills, and also, lack of. Black will show every wave or imperfection. If you are confident in your work and want to impress, go black.

Just as you would imagine, white will hide the most.

Metallics and pearls will also highlight flaws in the body work.


My favorite colors on third gens are, Blue, Silver, White, Flame Red/medium orange, and grey.

It looks pretty awesome on my car (in my opinion, anyways).

At the end of the day, just pick what's most appealing to you. If you're not happy with what you're doing, you won't do as good of a job. You have to enjoy it!

they are factory colors, but not from our birds. the blue is WA933L from GM and the silver is 1C5 from toyota. you can see alot more views of the colors on my bumper thread "FIREMARO FRONT BUMPER GRAFTING" (under the body section) I am still working on this project.

Thanks! My wife & I studied it over a lot before deciding. It's a GM color, and it's called Medium Cloisonne Metallic.

 

I like the factory color.

 

silver/grey, these cars look awesome in silver/grey but you hardly see them painted that color for some reason...

 

Thanks for all the suggestions but Honest Charley Garage is helping me with the paint. They are a restoration store that is owned by COKER Tire. My mentor has been painting for 15 years and I trust his skills completely. That blue looks good but I don't really like blue. The reason I do not want to paint it black is that so many people have black and I want my headlight pockets to be black.

Also bad news literally right after me and my mentor finished adjusting the back hatch and putting the new cowl hood on I was driving home on the highway and I hear wind...I looked up and my t top was lifting up... no sooner i reached up to grab it... it was gone. All I could do was watch it in my rear view as it flew off and shattered as it hit the ground lol. The Good news is I have a spare set of plastic T tops that came with the car for now I am going to throw those on till I can replace the one.

i really like white....even though i painted mine copper-ish, whenever i see a clean white thirdgen, i wish i did mine that way lol

 

Honestly my favorite color is silver. You never see it on these cars. I like the color it is now, although I think it's a little on the dull/dark side. But if you need to do a color change go with metallic blue, any of them. They all look great.

 

If you want to be a little different I think light driftwood metallic might look good. Mystic teal metallic would be great looking too and you could probably get away without doing the jams.

 

DARK GRAY GREEN METALLIC. Such a badass and unusual color.

 

Purple Haze!
There are many good colors for these 3rdgens. Some have found colors from other years, makes, and models that also look good on them. Find something you like. Theres hundreds, possibly thousands of pictures on here to drool over.

If you show your car it seems to help to have a color that stands out around where i'm from.

They say yellow adds horsepower but it's a well kept secret that purple actually takes .5 second off your 1/4 mile time!

 

well i was thinking maybe a dark hunter green or something i just dont want to end up with something i regrett

Is that the 2in steel Goodmark hood ?
When it comes time to paint, especially a high end paint job that's going to cost quite a bit I would not be shopping for a color on line. I would be walking the parking lots of car dealerships and car shows. There are some really beautiful paint colors to choose from and this way you can see the color directly on a car.

Side note = Someone is stretching the page. Either the photos are too big or the photos are side by side.
Resize photos and only stack photos so this does not happen.

No its a auto metal direct hood though I think they are pretty similar. So far though i would definitely recommend it the build quality is awesome. ALSO MY CAMARO IS PAINTED THAT EXACT COLOR LOL look closely. my paint is just messed up with alot of clear coat peeling and other stuff

You're right it is rather similar, with a more obvious green hue in the dark gray green metallic. God forbid someone put a Chrysler color on a Camaro.

 

white, blue, and silver are all great colors on a thirdgen...i'm partial to white, however. if my interior wasn't fire red, i would consider changing mine to blue.

I think just a plain and simple gloss black would look good.... but I'm not one for crazy color combos. Gloss red would be pretty good too.

Ahhhhh! This is very similar to the color my car is. Mine is called Viper Blue. And in my (somewhat biased) opinion, it's the best color.

 

IMO Snake Skin Green is the best green there is. Would look amazing on a 3rd gen with the right wheels.

I am painting mine 69 Camaro garnet red. code 52.

 

What's wrong with the OEM color? Just do a better job than Chevrolet did when you prep the car and lay the color down. For a street car, that would be my first thoughts.

When we restore our B4C, it will be put back in OEM black and white colors.

 

I don't like any of the oem colors except for the black.

 

So, what color did you decide on?

Sorry for letting the thread die I already bought the paint I chose a really dark green.The color is called Unripened green metalic/lime rock green metallic (seems they renamed it when they used it on the 2015 corvette). I will post pictures of it when it is finished we are just finishing up the body work
