I've been doing a ton of research, looking at pics, haven't gotten anywhere. I want to have that paintjob for my 82 T/A with the black and silver/gray/offwhite, but I need to figure out what the exact color is! Anyone happen to know what it is? I've seen some KARR replicas and they just look too grayish to my naked eye.

I think its black and silver, i dont know about actual code numbers. I often thought many times when I saw it that it was midnight blue and silver, but I think its actually the same black as KITT. In his second episode (KITT vs KARR), he tells his keeper--the boat shop guy-- "I need to change my appearance" and shows up with that paint job later. I dont think it shows who did it. If I did a KARR paint job Id go with dark, midnight blue and silver, even if its not what the original karr had. Its a great look.

Thanks- I was specifically referring to the "silver" because there are literally 1000 versions of silver. I've seen those photos for that car and its pretty awesome, but maybe a shade more "gray" than I want. I think when the turbocast wheels are clean and polished, they literally are the same exact color as the silver on the bottom of KARR. Unfortunately I can't write to the guy on the foundation, evidently the admin is gone, because my attempts to join the forum have been left unanswered so I can't get activated.

 

Yeah, youre right. That silver isnt as bright as what karr had. I cant find who actually created KITT, I thought that might tell us, or at least tellus where to look. I once thought it was George Barris, but Im not sure now.

 

This is a good one. Looks like it actually might be a 91 or 92 because you can see the Pontiac name on the headlight door.

 

I guess the admin from knight foundation saw my comment because a day later i was finally activated after like a month haha. That picture is pretty darn close, i'll write on there and see what i can come up with. thanks for the help!

 

Good, Im curious what you find out. I always wondered as a kid whether that was black or really dark blue on KARR. You going full out with it? Custom bumper and all? Ive thought for years about doing that, but it can get fairly expensive, and Im pretty much a novice mechanic with a lot to learn. My 92 would work well for it, but Im too attached to the fact that its red--just like the one I had when I was 23. When I was 19 I did have an 85 'Bird that was black with a t top though. It was a 305, but did not have the hood scoop like KITT.

 

....btw, I still love the turbo thrust/bowling ball wheels. I wish someone made a 17 X 9.5 version that could be had for a decent price. I noticed some classic 15's on ebay, and they were $6-900 unrestored, and up to $2500 refurbished. Unbelievable......

 

i cant do anything mechanical at all but the car is in pretty good condition in that regard. i bought the car for 6k with a rebuilt crate 305.i had to dump a fortune into replacing the a/c but otherwise just awful mileage is the only issue. i'm buying everything on a schedule. just finishing year 1 which was to fix broken interior studd recapet upholster etc.....next is the tint blackout bumper paint and scanner..... electronics and dash and other KN consoles another 18 months probably.

its extremely expensive and a custom shop will be installing the stuff as i get it not me so even more

 

Mine came with the turbocasts, 14's but they look fine. i had to buy the bowling ball caps which took a little time to find originals, but its all good.

 

I just bought this current Formula two months ago. I can do some mechanical, Im always learning, but I did have to dump a grand or so into a new heater core and bearings/ring and pinion for the rear end. That was a little beyond my current expertise, had to farm it out. Otherwise, the car seems solid so far, body is in great shape for an old girl! 5.7 L98.This spring Im going to put in a new headliner, I can do that myself though. Kind of like you, little by little. Keep us informed, and post pics. A lot of guys on here would be interested in a KR project. You might start a thread to keep us up to date and post to it now and again.

Click the "go advanced" button at the bottom (next to post quick reply) and then click the paper clip. It will let you browse and attach by clicking "choose file". Click upload then close window at the bottom. Then submit reply. There are probably easier ways, but thats what Ive been using.
