Whats the Best stuff to use to clean a 1992 camaros arm rests? I'm afraid to use something like goof off or something, because I used a bit on an interior trim panel and I think it permanently faded part of the trim piece, I don't want that to happen to the arm rest, but I feel I need some sort of heavy duty cleaner/degreaser without damaging the arm rest material or color.

 

Simple green has never treated me wrong. Hell I even use baby wipes a lot in my interior, amazing how well they work.

 

Let armorall soak into it a while then work it with a soft brush and wipe clean. Make sure to soak it tho.

 

I use windex and a touch of dawn dish soap with a firm plastic brush then rinse with water. repeat as needed until clean.

 

I use super clean whenever I clean any part. Comes in a purple bottle at autozone, its simple green on steroids.

 

This. Let the brush do the work.

 

What you don't want to use (while we're on the topic of interior cleaning/preserving) on the straps of T-top bags is Armour All or similar. When the sun hits it , it will cause fading/bleaching. You can use it on the bag itself, but don't get any on the straps.

Avoid anything with petroleum it it so it won't dry it out and cause cracking.

 

Don't know if the alcohol is good on the interior.

 

well on the first armrest I used a cleaner that helps break up rust or loosen it, scubbed with a plastic bristle brush, then 409 cleaner, scrubbed, then simple green scrubbed...then rinsed with water and tiny bit of dawn dish soap.

Seems to have gotten just about everything off, but I'll try the windex/soap method on the next one see if it's any easier as I don't like using all those harsh chemicals to clean them. baby wipes did nothing.

Horrible and harmful suggestions in this thread.
Use warm water. Maybe a dab of dawn dish soap suds on the rag at best.

Holy crap!!! I would never use what many have posted here. Simple Green won't harm the interior and does remove the dirt. Armor All is horrible, baby wipes, dependent on the brand could have oils in it that will cause more dirt, 409 is very harsh on painted surfaces as is Windex. Warm Soapy water is the best if you can get clean with it, if not, Simple Green.
